I have been working at Harry Winston full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people and work environment, good location, decent pay across the board that compares average among other luxury retail companies.

    Cons

Terrible holidays, days off, vacation etc., very little diversity, needs to be more communication and alignment between departments and colleagues, and as much as everyone talks about retaining staff, no one is trying hard enough to actually do so.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent with employees! They feel like they're left in the dark often through a lot of important decisions.

I worked at Harry Winston full-time

    Pros

Getting to work with high-quality, beautiful merchandise, and be a part of a high-profile, international company. Generally, staff members were smart, experienced, friendly, and understanding. A company that actively hires and showcases the talents of women, gay people, and people from different cultures and backgrounds.

    Cons

Can't say what it's like now, but when I was there, many staff members were extremely over-worked, burned out, and unhappy. Morale in many departments was very low. Because staff members had so much work to do, it was often difficult to get immediate attention from higher-ups who had to provide feedback in order for us to do our job on schedule. My department, in particular, was very chaotic and understaffed. Company expected most staff members to embrace and represent the brand in ways beyond their jobs, and attend in-house PR events after work; many staff members also worked extremely long hours. This culture may not appeal to people who want to focus on their job, but maintain their personal life and indentity.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people so that there isn't such a burden on people to do the job of 2-3 people. Respect people's lives outside of work, and don't expect people to work late frequently, or attend PR events that don't actually have anything to do with people's individual jobs. Happy workers are those who are allowed to have a personal life, and time to exercise, raise a family, or have a social life.

I worked at Harry Winston full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Big brand. Sales executives are very nice and very willing to train and teach the new girl.

    Cons

Everything works in the salon is based on seniority, so the everyone is very entitled to their positions in the salon. Thought out the training process, the most senior salon assistant is responsible to train you, and there are many micromanagement from the team. They expect you to remember everything in the salon within a day or two. Specially when it's opening and closing, you have to remember where every jewelry goes. There are the whole list of dos and donts and you have to do everything closely with the list. If you are the translator in the salon, it is an extremely white work environment, therefore you might easily get name called, the translator, servant etc...

Turn over rate is high because simply there are no big picture in this position. It is very different from what they described on the job description. They are very good at giving you big pictures and makes you to think you will have many opportunities after being the salon assistant, but the truth is it is very rare. If you have a heart to build your career in the fine jewelry industry as a sale executive, this maybe be a good place for you. But for other directions, this position certainly not a career stop.

    Advice to Management

Try to have some more faith in your employees. Give more training before sending them off by themselves. Please respect people in different color and culture.
