I have been working at Hartford Business Journal full-time

    Pros

Editor is committed to strong business journalism ethic
Editorial team has a diverse skill set that allows for thorough coverage
    Great working in Downtown Hartford

    Cons

    Hours can be long.
Doesn't seem to be a commitment to keeping up with technology.
Company doesn't seem to have a clear vision of the future it wants to pursue.

    Advice to Management

Heed the advice of the editor when it comes to editorial decisions. He's a bright person with a deep respect for the product and its mission.

I worked at Hartford Business Journal part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I had a very nice manager in the production department. Everyone was very polite.

    Cons

The company laid off many employees during my last year. I felt that this was unfair and being part-time, my hours were cut as well. I did not appreciate this and the lack of a raise after being there for two years. I also did not feel that I had an opportunity to advance working there.

    Advice to Management

My advice to management is to scale down the amount of projects and to focus on quality. Employees have too much work to be able to produce a quality project. This is very disappointing when it comes to work satisfaction.

I worked at Hartford Business Journal as an intern

I worked at Hartford Business Journal as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

This was the best internship experience I could have asked for. Interns at HBJ are treated with respect and given real responsibilities, not tasks like making coffee and running errands. I went in knowing this was not going to be a temp to hire position, however my supervisor worked to find me a full time position in my field with a vendor.

    Cons

No real Cons of this experience, it was unpaid however.

    Advice to Management

    None
