I worked at Hartford Public Schools for more than 10 years

    Pros

Health care IF you’re there for some time

    Cons

Nepotism is a HUGE ISSUE at the Office of Talent Management; new employees pay top tier for health care; Administrators seem to no longer have much of a say pertaining to staffing they want or need due to the Office of Talent Management; A LOT of under the table deals between the Union + OTM.

    Advice to Management

Value veteran staff...experience is an asset- not commodity; Veteran or New Administrators should get a say pertaining to their staffing; Superintendent may or may not know of the OTM nepotism issues. State Labor Office should revamp their practice due to the staffing turnover.

I worked at Hartford Public Schools full-time

    Pros

Great benefits. Dedicated teachers. Hard-working "worker bees".

    Cons

Overpaid administrators who barely do any work and like to focus on theory instead of truly improving education for the district's mainly minority and low-income students. Too much money wasted on outside contractors who don't know or care about the district.

    Advice to Management

The State should do a take-over and audit all the funds wasted on outside contracts and faddish educational traps being tested on Hartford students as well as on the raises being handed to too many overpaid staff considering that the district is in deep debt.

I worked at Hartford Public Schools full-time

    Pros

The Students are the best part of working for this agency!

    Cons

Management sucks, untrustworthy, predators and will lie to save their own souls!

    Advice to Management

It's too top heavy, monies going toward salaries instead of the students!

I worked at Hartford Public Schools full-time

    Pros

Great colleagues in surrounding classrooms willing to help in any way they can to induct new teachers.

    Cons

Very little real, practical support from building management to get settled and virtually no back-up support in the classroom (essential to establish behavior management base) to help teachers follow through with massive behavior issues.

    Advice to Management

Shared classroom TAs or parent volunteers present to anchor teachers' efforts and direction.
