    Pros

I worked in admissions and it was a tremendous experience. I was paid above minimum wage, had reasonable hours and learned incredible skills. Being a tour guide forced me to step outside of my comfort zone and make small talk with strangers and I was greatly benefitted by it. The work environment was great and I felt like I was apart of the team.

    Cons

During the school year, I never worked more than 6 or 7 hours. This was a pro because I stayed on top of my work but a con because I would have loved to earn more money.

    Advice to Management

Always provide written instructions for open houses

I have been working at Hartwick College full-time

    Pros

Lots of great people, and a real sense of being involved in something together.

    Cons

The president of the college is a monster, and may well destroy the place.

    Advice to Management

    Get out of the way!

I worked at Hartwick College (Less than a year)

    Pros

I worked in two different departments at Hartwick and both were great. I gained a lot of valuable skills and was allowed the freedom I needed to get my work done efficiently

    Cons

I was a student doing a work study position so the pay wasn't great.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Friendly people here and there, but it takes a lot of work to find people you can trust.

    Cons

Lots of incompetence in various offices, no real concern for student opinions; admin cannot make decisions to save their lives, no work/life balance whatsoever - you either bleed blue or get a new job. The president thinks you should sacrifice your life for the college, but there is never any recognition for how much you actually sacrifice working here. It's not worth it.

    Advice to Management

Empower subordinates to make decisions, clean house in offices full of incompetence, stop protecting people because you like them. Listen to the students!

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Hartwick College full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Your efforts are appreciated and you can make a difference. Leadership is good but challenging to those employees who have become complacent or feel that they are not accountable to anyone. This change of culture to one of accountability is good but a "process."

    Cons

Not everyone who works here cares as much as I do about our students and their success. People who don't like the work they are asked to do should move on.

    Advice to Management

Keep hiring motivated professionals; encourage/ask the others who are only collecting a pay check to move on. Some employees here think they are entitled to more than they deserve. Working with dedicated professionals is inspiring.

I worked at Hartwick College part-time

    Pros

Easy way to make some extra money through college. Management is always friendly and it's a good way to meet new people.

    Cons

Not many hours and pay is low

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

    - it's beautiful in the fall

    Cons

    - all decisions require a committee - the president is socially dysfunctional - people are more concerned with their title than the work they do - Student concerns are heard but never acted upon

    Advice to Management

    - reduce the red tape - make decisions - care what your students say
