I have been working at Hartwick College full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Autonomy, smart colleagues, creative environment. This is a beautiful campus with committed employees and I feel lucky to work here.

    Cons

To keep educational costs down there are many demands on a limited number of employees. More to do in a day than can be accomplished.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the focus on innovative ways to make this experience affordable for students.

    Pros

Small classes; teachers have some control over the textbook assignment and syllabus

    Cons

Pays part-time employees poorly; no professional development for part-time employees; no routes to obtaining full-time employment from the part-time positions.

    Advice to Management

Give part-time adjuncts more pay; avenues towards full-time employment; health benefits; paid sick days, etc.

    Pros

I worked in admissions and it was a tremendous experience. I was paid above minimum wage, had reasonable hours and learned incredible skills. Being a tour guide forced me to step outside of my comfort zone and make small talk with strangers and I was greatly benefitted by it. The work environment was great and I felt like I was apart of the team.

    Cons

During the school year, I never worked more than 6 or 7 hours. This was a pro because I stayed on top of my work but a con because I would have loved to earn more money.

    Advice to Management

Always provide written instructions for open houses

    Pros

Lots of great people, and a real sense of being involved in something together.

    Cons

The president of the college is a monster, and may well destroy the place.

    Advice to Management

    Get out of the way!
