    Pros

Harvard is a great place to work. Superior benefits, supportive work environment and many opportunities for cultural enrichment on campus!

    Cons

There really are not any cons here except for low salaries. There is ample opportunity to move around if the current position is not quite the right fit.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up, benefits, education, work/life balance. It is what makes this place great. Salaries can be increased.

I have been working at Harvard University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits and a feel-good mission. It's energizing to know that your contribution is improving the greater good, not someone's bottom-line dollar signs.

    Cons

Higher-Ed is, at it's core, bureaucratic, and not for everyone. If you are willing to help the institution improve, and not expect improvement to be mandated from the top down, then you'll get along just fine. It can take an adjustment period for employees coming fresh from a corporate environment.

    Advice to Management

Like most of the education sector, there is an opportunity to improve IT governance as well as maturity around project and portfolio management. Balancing creative ideas and new technologies with strategic alignment is key to sustainability.

"Inspiring community, limited growth opportunity, not great on diversity"

I have been working at Harvard University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It is an awesome environment to be in. Internationally diverse, bright people, surrounded by people who are really making a difference in the world. Lots of culture, and learning opportunities via free classes. Good gym benefits, health benefits. Paid time off is good if they let you use it. Automatic one week off at Christmas break is awesome. Your job will be more stable then the private sector, but I have seen plenty of people laid off unexpectedly.

    Cons

Especially if you are a minority, growth opportunities are limited. Most places, though not all, expect you to work very hard for not great pay. There is a lot of classism and elitism which can be challenging and frustrating to deal with.

    Advice to Management

IT needs more resources. We are not resourced enough--too many managers and not enough engineers.

    Pros

User friendly, working together as a group to achieve the best support for staff, faculty, and students.

    Cons
