I have been working at Harvard University full-time

    Pros

Really good benefits - including really cheap access to courses!

    Cons

A lot of big egos and politics

I worked at Harvard University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people you work with are mostly wonderful. Many are positive, collaborative, friendly, and intelligent, and interested in doing good work.

    Cons

It is a very large institution, and has overlapping offices since it is so decentralized. It seems that this can make it a bit slow-moving in adjusting, in order to make improvements in process or clarifying goals.

I have been working at Harvard University part-time

    Pros

The caliber of scholarship exceeds that of any other university setting I've been a part of and the academic resources are unparalleled.

    Cons

Depending on the department it has a reputation for not being the friendliest of environments, and I've found some truth in that reputation. There is a fairly prevalent, "what's in it for me?" stance toward collaboration or mentorship. Be prepared to sell yourself and be a booster of your own work if you want to succeed.

    Advice to Management

The more barriers can be broken down between schools and departments the better. This is as much a question of culture as it is about lowering logistical barriers.

I have been working at Harvard University part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Really good benefits, supportive coworkers (at least in my office), lots of resources and professional development opportunities available

    Cons

Really large organization means sometimes it can take a really long time to get things fixed, and there's a lot of one office does things this way and another office does things this way so the learning curve can be a little difficult at the start.
