    I worked at Harvard-Westlake School part-time

    Pros

As both a former student and employee, Harvard-Westlake acted as a crucial experience in both my academic and career development.

    Cons

Harvard-Westlake can be a both taxing and stressful environment at times.

I have been working at Harvard-Westlake School full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great students and top notch facilities.

    Cons

No transparency, no real sense of community, or trust, a lack of loyality to their employees and staff.

    Advice to Management

The place needs a heart. Runs more that a corporation rather than a community of people in a learning environment taking care of each other.

I worked at Harvard-Westlake School full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The school offers great benefits and is in the high range for teacher pay. The students are, overall, strong, and the colleagues are smart.

    Cons

The school structure is very hierarchical and the environment is as high-stress as it gets in a prep school environment. There can be a secretive, back-stabby vibe. No one trusts each other. It is not a warm and fuzzy place.

    Cons

Demanding workload, expectations for work and community participation can make work/life balance difficult.

I worked at Harvard-Westlake School full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Harvard-Westlake School is staffed by bright, innovative who are provided with terrific resources and support to do their jobs well. The benefits are wonderful and comprehensive, even in this day and age.

    Cons

For administrators, there is less room for growth than for faculty, but it is possible to create a position for yourself on occasion.

    Pros

Great players! Everyone plays really well, hitting the ball hard, and with a lot of spin and they also try very hard to win every match.

    Cons

People can be a bit stuffy. There is some times a lack of communication between management and employees

    Advice to Management

Have more meetings and when you have the meetings make sure that they are valuable and that people are understanding what you are saying.

I have been working at Harvard-Westlake School full-time

    Pros

Great administration, great parents, great colleagues, great facilities and resources. Bright, talented, motivated, nice, polite students.

    Cons

You need to do an exceptional job every day without fail.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. That is why the school is amazing.

I worked at Harvard-Westlake School full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Administration is extremely supportive of new ideas. Faculty and staff are revered by parents. Students who attend may have normal problems, but they are excited to be at school and don't cause disruptions. School is financially sound but not cheap. Comfort and top-notch teaching tools are a priority. Same goes for staff needs. Most departments provide ample opportunity for professional growth and you're encouraged to try new things. Alumni love to come back here to work.

    Cons

You are so well fed that you are likely to gain 15 - 20 pounds your first year. That's about as bad as it gets.
They screen employees well; faculty applicants should have a few years of teaching experience elsewhere first.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work, Mr. Commons and staff! Mr. Hudnut left big shoes to fill, but your are making your own indelible, creative, and worthwhile marks on the HW community.
