I have been working at Hastings Direct full-time

    Pros

Hastings is growing rapidly which means there are lots of opportunities to get involved and contribute. Because we've grown from a small company to a large one so quickly, there's still a really friendly feel all over the offices, despite our size, and everyone always launches themselves at a challenge.
There's lots of company events all year long and you can see the sea from the Bexhill office windows!

    Cons

Sometimes the business growth can be in a lot of directions at once and keeping up isn't easy with so many plans on the go, in separate business areas.

    Advice to Management

Clearer plans, vocalised across business areas and less people 'doing their own thing'.
Create more formalised opportunities for junior employees to develop skills and qualifications outside of the contact centre environment.

Canteen, free hot drinks & fruit

    Cons

    Weak management
Quality feedbacks are not constructive and people are not supported enough to follow the correct procedures

    Advice to Management

They need to familiarise with the industry better to be able to handle complaints effectively and support their people

I worked at Hastings Direct full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Umm
    It pays a wage.
    Struggling here...
I think they gave us ice lollys once.
    That's it.
    No other pros.

    Cons

    Impossible to book holiday.
    Slowly destroys your soul.
Bonuses can be wiped out for flimsy reasons.
Was told I was taking too many toilet breaks (I had cystitis).
    Managers don't have a clue.
Feels a lot like being in prison.
Agents regularly broke down and were expected to take calls while crying.

    Advice to Management

I think they are beyond help but try treating staff like adults. Putting your hand up, being told off for going to the bathroom etc. is demoralising.

I worked at Hastings Direct full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    City Centre battery farm location

    Cons

I started working at Hastings Direct in Leicester. I started on a 6 months contract with the promise of a permanent contract and a pay rise (derisory pay for the first 6 months) as long as my performance was satisfactory.

Two weeks before the end of the 6 months I was called in to the office and I was told that I would not be offered a perm contract as my stats were no good enough.

This is certainly not sour grapes (I have too much maturity for that) as if I really wasn't competent then Hastings was justified but I just know full well that my performance was good enough.

The pay in the first 6 months was derisory and the conditions more like a sweat shop labour than a contemporary company.

I am walking away with my head held high but Hastings got 6 months cheap labour by dangling the carrot of a perm contract and a subsequent pay rise.

I have since found people on social media with similar experiences of this company.

Please don't believe all the online spin about being like a 'small family'. To be honest I got a very bad feeling right from my first telephone interview - I should have followed my instincts.

    Advice to Management

Management..? I would not know where to start..
