I have been working at Hastings Entertainment full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Entertainment is part of our name and part of working for this company. I enjoy the associates, the product and the job. There is always work to be done and customers to be helped, which I enjoy.

    Cons

Work load can become overwhelming if not planned. Working the the backroom is stuffy and hot, summer time it is almost unbearable and winter is freezing

    Advice to Management

Organize project so they don't overlap or overwhelm. We will return several boxes of books, only to have the same books reappear on UPS. So some work does feel and is repetitive

I have been working at Hastings Entertainment part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very easy place to work. Room for advancement. I've received 2 pay increases and I've made my way to upper management. Flexible hours. Great co-workers. Chill place to work. Employee discount is supreme.

    Cons

Terrible pay rate. After two wage increases and boost up to a management position I still make under 10 dollars an hour. Consistently getting scheduled for less hours than I want. Having to pick up other peoples shifts just to get the 35+ I want and need to pay rent.

    Advice to Management

Better compensation for the work I put in. Give me more hours! I just want to work.

    Never received a raise
    Extremely high turnover rate
    Constantly changing policies
    Outdated computer systems
    Hastings also just filed bankruptcy

    Advice to Management

    New computer system
Designated location for every product in the store
    Keep overstock in the backroom
Have a designated warehouse for online product
    More training
    Better communication

    Pros

You get to know regular, friendly customers...and if you're a bookworm, you can grab a book while you have no customers.

    Cons

Management isn't very friendly. Raises are far and few between, even after YEARS of working for the company. Minimum Wage (same as McDonald's). And you're often by yourself during Happy Hour, which can get extremely hectic.

    Advice to Management

Reward your workers for their hard work or at least thank them. Always staff two Baristas during Happy Hour.
