I worked at Hatfield Quality Meats full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Energetic co-workers
    Surrounded by hard-working, motivated people
    No shortage of overtime ($$$)
    Opportunity for advancement
    Great 401K and Health Insurance

    Cons

    High stress/fast-paced atmosphere
    Inadequate training
Focus on mass-production, rather than safe, quality products
A LOT of overtime (10-12 hr. days, not salary); not originally told how much overtime was expected
    High turnover rate
Orientation leads workers to believe that they are a religious, family-based company, but management's continual push for clients/profit shows otherwise

    Advice to Management

Plan for more production adequately (whether by hiring more people, fixing the facility, or a combination of the two) in order to expand while still producing safe, quality products.

I worked at Hatfield Quality Meats full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Paycheck every week. Other than receiving a paycheck each week, there are no pros. Bonuses are not guaranteed, and the preach a work life balance that does not exist.

    Cons

Poor communication, long hours, bad pay. Turnover is a very big problem, which makes it hard to developed a strong team. Poor training techniques, with high expectations.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees more.

I worked at Hatfield Quality Meats full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

When it was HQM it was a great place to work

    Cons

Very mismanagemed, I mean who tries an idea that already fail miserably.when they took out the lines the first time it failed so why did you try it again, look at all the long term people that left these were the people they claim they want but do nothing to keep them.the supervisiors are nothing more spineless puppets.

    Advice to Management

Fire your selfs burn order assembly to the ground and start all over again. By putting good people in charge and not the ones who worry about who has Sunday dinner with Doug Clemens .

I worked at Hatfield Quality Meats full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The starting salary was nice and I was able to determine my own hours.

    Cons

Incredibly gossipy, judgemental, and misogynistic environment. There are entire upper management departments without women, and promotions are given to those who have family within the company.

    Advice to Management

Promotions should be given to those that deserve it, not just because of gender or family.

I worked at Hatfield Quality Meats full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They are always hiring new employees

    Cons

They are always hiring because they are always firing for everything... Including chewing gum. Don't do one thing wrong here because they will make you pay for your mistake out of your paycheck and be quick to get rid of you for something as little as chewing gum. For every person they fire, they hire 2 more, so you mean nothing to them. Very high turn-over rate, bottom-of-the-barrel pay, long backbreaking hours, and complete disregard and disrespect for their employees. Don't even waste your time, the pay isn't worth being their slave.

    Advice to Management

Nothing because they will never change, they can afford to be jerks so why would they change?

I worked at Hatfield Quality Meats full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Periodic bonuses (profit sharing)
    - Holiday perks such as a free ham for Christmas & Easter.
    - Relatively flexible work hours.

    Cons

    - Company culture is to basically work all the time. If you're working less than 10 hours a day people are looking at you funny when you leave.
    - If you have been around for more than five years or so and/or have a "high" salary, you will be forced out of the company one way or another.
    - Everyone, and I do mean everyone, is underpaid.
    - Employee turnover is over 15%.

    Advice to Management

    - Fire almost everyone in middle management and start over.
    - Compensate people for what they're actually worth.

I have been working at Hatfield Quality Meats full-time

    Pros

Profit-sharing plan is great, as well as quarterly/holiday bonuses.

    Cons

Management doesn't take accountability; there's also a blatant lack of respect for the QA department, and lack of leadership within the QA department. Pay could be better.

    Advice to Management

Treat people better and care more about your job.

    Pros

    Cons

They took the fun out of the job. Always talk about letting SR. people go. If you have more than 10 years with the company look out.

    Advice to Management

Stop playing with people lives and go back to the way we did things many years ago . We still made money and had fun

    Pros

You get to learn about all divisions of company and interact with coworkers from vastly different backgrounds and specialties. Lots of promotion based on ability rather than just experience.

    Cons

Not the most dynamic of companies, pay is mediocre and accountability can be an issue,
