I have been working at Havas Life

    Pros

HLNY is an agency that has exceptional leadership on both the Account and Creative side. They provide exceptional leadership across the boards. The environment is 100% collaborative and senior leadership does everything it can to make sure the teams are fully staffed. The work is creative and outside of the box thinking and tactics happen regularly. All departments support each other and I have not seen any real frustrations...

    Cons

The only cons I have are industry cons. We work in a brutal industry and the hours can be challenging, but this is the MOST liberal agency I have worked out of that allows you to work from home, if needed. So, I guess no cons...

    Advice to Management

Keep supporting your people and continue to grow from the inside. As an agency, I think you are growing the right people and making an agency truly a powerhouse.

I worked at Havas Life full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Strong account and copy departments. Efficient, no-nonsense attitudes and good problem-solvers everywhere. Being able to work autonomously and use independent judgment gets rewarded there. The culture skews smart and cynical, and no one expects you to "drink the kool aid" or be a cheerleader for the agency even during the boozy pep rallies. If you're on a bad team, the hours can be long. But I worked on a team where we...

    Cons

The art department needs a creative retreat or something. Everyone is so burned out and robotic. The editorial department also needs a boost. It felt at the time I left like internal growth opportunities were limited without new business wins. Heavily staffed at the top without a lot of room to grow for anyone doing the bitc* work.

    Advice to Management

Throw everything into new business pitches, get more business, and recruit inspiring art leadership beyond just the CD

I worked at Havas Life full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The jr/mid-level people you work with on a day-to-day are nice people.

    Cons

    - This place is horrible! Every team in the agency is understaffed. Be prepared to work 17 hour days, Saturdays, Sundays and not senior management to not even say thank you. - This is an old-school "print" agency that doesn't get digital at all. Be prepared to lose digital business because the teams that you work with don't get digital at all. - This place is VERY political. Be prepared to write a lot of CYA emails....

    Advice to Management

No one at the jr/mid-level trusts anyone at the top. They all feel like they are manipulated and are out for themselves. Change starts from the top. Get new leadership at the VP/SVP level, especially on the Account teams.

I worked at Havas Life full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There's a lot of really pleasant, talented people here. The office culture is generally laid back.

    Cons

Experience depends on what account you end up on. Mine was an absolute train wreck - severely understaffed with unrealistic expectations.

    Advice to Management

If you're going to preach transparency, you should actually try to be transparent.

    Pros

Pay is not bad. Nice rooftop. People are nice.

    Cons

No structure. Not a good place if you want to push ideas and innovation. Work is very mediocre.

    Advice to Management

Don't settle. Push for something great. And most importantly push for a greater creative and open culture. Not just superficially. You gotta dig deep to find ways to bring out the best in your employees

I worked at Havas Life full-time

    Pros

A true 9-5 job in New York city, which is rare for any agency.

    Cons

-Was promised one thing by former boss who was let go. -Rarely given the appropriate resources to do my job, and rarely was let into meetings -Very cliche. If you were not in with the right people then good luck getting any help or resources when asked. -Barely interacted with clients, account, or creatives -Was not allowed to utilize editors for decks going out to clients. This was done deliberately as other strategists...

    Advice to Management

-Do not act like the people you are supposed to manage are an unnecessary burden to your job. Being a manager entails managing subordinates. -Do not make it so difficult to access benefits -Do not pretend to help out an employee only to be slowly pushing them out of the company because you lost business. Own up to the shifting business that all people in advertising are aware of,

I have been working at Havas Life full-time

    Pros

Atmosphere is laid back and people are generally nice and dedicated to their work.

    Cons

Like most agencies, client consolidation has led to a few large ones rather than many small ones. Therefore, the work is dull and most time is spent on making clients happy at cost of the actual design. Starting to feel like a factory rather than a digital agency.

    Advice to Management

If don't push clients or stand up for your employees, eventually will be left with no talent or behind the times.

I have been working at Havas Life full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I truly like everyone I work with, they're a great team! I like the casual non-library like atmosphere that we work in.

    Cons

The benefits are terrible--only one healthcare plan. If you're not in the "in crowd" good luck getting promoted. There's really no work-life balance--you can work every day until 10pm or later and you'll get an email saying "thanks for working so hard" but nothing changes.

    Advice to Management

Get with the times. Be more open to people working from home and give better time-off.
