I have been working at Hawaii Pacific Health full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

We get to help the community. Great leadership and fiscal accountability. Employee engagement is a focus so they truly emphasize programs that empower and appreciate employees.

    Cons

Lots of work, sometimes understaffed with tight deadlines to meet; can be stressful but it's getting better and always helps to be inspired and motivated by all of the stories of the patients who have benefited from our care.

I worked at Hawaii Pacific Health full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

*The IT Department has two main locations. The first office is located in the heart of downtown Honolulu and second office is located South of Honolulu (near Ward & Beretania).
*Co-workers that turn into friends = bonus
    *Medical benefits are wonderful
    *Office luncheon parties was always a blast! {note: second office ONLY}
*Tech Services,Enterprise, is an awesome team.

    Cons

*Parking is expensive. Lack of parking stalls in the area. No options from company. Should take suggestions from neighboring hospital (Queen's) who provide shuttling parking service for their employee's.

*Lack of strong leadership (unethical and narcissistic)

    Advice to Management

The one reason why people leave is not because they don't like their job, it's because they don't TRUST their Leader.

I worked at Hawaii Pacific Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I loved my coworkers. Pretty much everyone was fun to work with and team players. It's a great hospital that really cares about the patients. I would recommend my family be treated at this hospital.

    Cons

Budget issues make them schedule floors short, esp nurse aides. Once RN new grad academy starts, the CNAs get taken and then we're short in the floor again. Happens twice a year. Bc staffing is short, schedules are rigid. Not too many to switch shifts with. It takes forever to get preference for weekends off. Vacations need to be bid for at the beginning of the year for the entire year.

I worked at Hawaii Pacific Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The organization is forward-thinking and doing great things for Hawai‘i communities.Executive leadership is great and the senior management team runs lean.

    Cons

Middle management is not so great. You are expected to wear many hats in your role and stakes are ALWAYS high. You are expected perform many tasks without much training.

    Advice to Management

Middle management could use some work and is often the reason people leave the organization.

Staff should be afforded more training opportunities.

Job roles are not reviewed often enough against market-based compensation, it seems.

    Lack of transparency in compensation.

Please invest in contracting parking spaces for employees. It makes a huge difference.

    Pros

You gain great experience in tier 1 IT that will help you should you (and you definitely should) go to another company.

    Cons

Alot of office politics and bullying. Management cares more about perception than reality. Management and BAs often are clueless.

    Advice to Management

Stop caring about perception so much to the point where you shame or intimidate employees. The Gallop is a complete joke when the bulk of management basically tells you to give good reviews of the company when in reality they treat you like dirt. And if you're going to hire a supervisor for Service Desk then hire a competent one and not a kiss up as the current one is.

Poorly managed, STs are unhappy, understaffed due to remoteness, too much call, sometimes don't even get a lunch break

    Advice to Management

Proper staffing for a higher quality to the workday
