I worked at Hawaii Pacific Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great advertisement and great mission. This company definitely has potential as they do a really good job at advertising their mission. They try their best to give their employees work-life balance. This is probably the only organization that tries their best to some-what be a bit more modern compared to Queen's which is good, since it'll help attract younger people. The younger generations are going to be the future so it's important that we invest in them.

    Cons

Lots of island politics and nepotism. The pay here is competitive for a hospital in Hawaii, but voicing your opinion isn't always the best way to go about it. It has nothing to do with it being a bargained organization, but there are further politics that you should pay attention to rather than just politics within the organization. There are politics on the islands too. It's quite normal to see great people/employees leave quite often. It's probably safer to just go with the flow and lay-low. If you're a progressive individual, then this is not the place for you.

    Advice to Management

If possible, try and listen to your employees. Get rid of the ones that's manipulating the system, especially the ones that are abusing their leaves. Gall-up is a great way to see how employees and departments are doing, but it has become a popularity contest for some managers, which can make the environment a bit toxic. The mission is great so keep that up, but find a way to get rid of the toxic people and promote/appreciate the humble and hard working employees that actually cares about the organization.
