I worked at Hawaiian Telcom full-time

    Pros

Interesting work in the B2C sector with many opportunities to learn and grow. Supportive team environment that allowed for career development and future opportunities within the company as well as in other markets.

    Cons

Limited potential for bonus or other compensation package enhancements in the lower management levels, no parking onsite for majority of staff - closest parking is a downtown garage with monthly fee (approx $180)

I have been working at Hawaiian Telcom full-time

    Pros

benefits an pay are wonderful When we can offer service is great

    Cons

Management plays favorites and has no problem showing it Training is horrible an inconsistent Management takes no responsibility for poor training they blame the reps for "not listening" or "not being able to adjust to change" Forced OT have to stay till calls are cleared even if you have something to do and your shift is over CRM is full of errors and problems The right hand is not communicating with the left and cust blame the "cust service"

    I worked at Hawaiian Telcom

    Pros

Coworkers, trainers, and supervisors are nice. Pay is avg, it's unionized.

    Cons

The information systems/ticketing systems that you will be working with are fragmented, outdated, and inefficient. To look up a customer in their system you have to search for him multiple times across different tools and databases just to get a more complete profile. Keep in mind that the supervisors put emphasis on quick calls to make good stats, but the system wastes your time. There's an attempt to unify everything through a dashboard but if the service goes down--which it has before, you will need to resort to the old methods. The people in other service departments can be terrible. Some report you for wasting a few minutes of their time, yet they always ask for our help. Then there is the nature of the work. You have to have thick skin and patience to deal with masses of upset/stupid customers. Expect overtime. You will learn to hate the rain. Parking in downtown is nonexistent and can be a big con for some.

I worked at Hawaiian Telcom full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Hawaiian Telcom has a very strong career path if you get your foot in the door. You can easily move up within in the company if you're willing to learn, put up with the politics, and devote your career to the company. The pay is great and it has a strong union for hourly employees.

    Cons

One of my biggest gripes working here was the lack of employee training. Being a telecommunications company you would think (especially those in the technical support department), would have a lot more training and knowledge on how to support the products HiTel offers.

I have been working at Hawaiian Telcom full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The majority of the people you'll interact with at the working level are GREAT and know how to get things done, even if they're not sure why Mid through Upper Management wants it done in the first place!

    Cons

Middle-Upper Management know what the issues are, but the power struggle between all of them will not allow for positive changes to be made for the benefit of the company as a whole.

I have been working at Hawaiian Telcom full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Family friendly with lots of flexible hours. Management pretty much leaves you alone if you do your work and keep out of trouble. If you are a self-motivated worker with self directed drives and objectives, this company is for you. If you require lots of training and direction, this company is not for you.

    Cons

There is no money to improve existing technology and facilities. We are using technology that can be found in historical museums. Some toilet facilities at HQ hasn't been fixed for over 6-months since there is no money to repair them. When asked when basic facilities will be fixed, there is no straight definite answer. Just to use the toilet may require going to a different floor. Some public beach facilities are better.
