I have been working at Hawkins full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I feel incredibly fortunate to have recently received a job offer from Hawkins. From my first contact with Minde to my ultimate hire, the entire process was handled with incredible professionalism, understanding, and sensitivity. One reviewer noted that Hawkins is a "hidden gem." I couldn't agree more!

    Cons

This may sound crazy in today's world, but I have honestly found nothing wrong with Hawkins.

    Pros

The hourly wage pays a decent amount
The company has good health benefits through the employee union

    Cons

Unsafe working facilities. Unable to incorporate many important safety procedures due to high volume work load. Which is scary when working with acidic and corrosive chemicals

Huge disconnect between corporate and general employees, which made trying to make changes/improvements extremely difficult

There is a union and HR, but I found that neither one does much to protect employees when difficult situations come up

Facilities understaffed. High volume work load and not enough staff members. Causing many mistakes, chemical spills, and countless hours of mandated unwanted overtime

High turnover from temporary and full-time employees. Due to high work load and minimal if no official training

Think twice before excepting a job here

    Advice to Management

Communicate with your employees. This company has a lot of potential, but will never reach it because no one can stand to stay at certain facilities more than a few years. There are people who work in production every day with great ideas that will never be heard. Employees need to have some official training before starting, which would be possible if facilities where adequately staffed.

I worked at Hawkins full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits, fairly flexible schedule.

    Cons

    - Old stogie atmosphere
    - New employees are offered little training in most departments
    - Outdated procedures and lack of interest in changing or updating though some newer managers are trying
    - Lack of communication within organization causes frequent, unnecessary timeliness issues with orders.
    - Tuition reimbursement only seems to apply if you are going to school for what they want. If you desire to go into a different field you must get permission from management to study or you may risk losing your job.
    - If you start into tuition reimbursement program and quit or lose your job, you owe them all the money paid to that point.

    Advice to Management

    Stop backbiting your employees.

I have been working at Hawkins full-time

    Pros

Great company to work for, above average for both pay and benefits. Management takes action on poor performers and recognizes good employees. Solid business model for longevity and growth!

    Cons

Could have a stronger marketing strategy on their positive image, still seems to be relatively unknown for a company in business over 75 years.

    Pros

Small company so it is easy to get to know everyone that works there and there are many great people who work there.

    Cons

Culture is one that unless you work there more than 10 years you are not part of the team. Performance is not managed at all and even those that perform well get the same increases as those who are not, unless one of the executives likes you and then you get whatever you want. In addition, the management team is really out of touch with the employees. There is a real gap between the pay and incentives the executive team gets compared to the rest of the employees.

I have been working at Hawkins full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay, the oppertunity to advance, and an emphasis on safety make this company one to work for.

    Cons

Putting the customer first can at time create long hours and stressful situations that you will need to deal with.

    Advice to Management

Take care of those on the lowest level. They are the ones who are keeping Hawkins good name.
