Some of the people to work with was good. "Some"

    Cons

Management sucks. Take away from employees to put more money in their own pockets. No moral what so ever.

Listen to the employees. Treat them more than just a number.

I worked at Hawthorne Cat full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you like to work alot this is for you. If your looking to have a home life forget about it.

    Cons

Low pay, good ole boy club, very surprising to me the rate of 20 dollars an hour to drive lowbed and haul around million dollar equipment.

    Advice to Management

None that will be listened too

    Pros

Hawthorne underwent some difficult times during 2008 and 2009 as a result of the economic downturn but has made a significant effort to improve employee morale.

    Compensation and benefits are fair.

Hawthorne is the number one market share dealer in California and Hawaii.
    Mechanics are very talented.

    Cons

Communication between departments is slow but improving.

Economic downturns can be more significant than other industries but the worst seems to be over.

    Advice to Management

Thank you for the leadership during 2008 and 2009 and keep working on communication. More time in the field always helpful.

    Pros

    Good employees
Used to be like a family
    Used to be fun

    Cons

    Unstable management
    Poor management of people
    Poor financial decisions
    Dictatorial leadership
    Wrong people making decisions
    Too many people laid off
    Poor execution
    Management in "ivory towers"
    Management doesn't care about employees

    Advice to Management

Quit letting one over ambitious, egotistical VP make all decisions that affects entire company
CEO needs to interact with employees other than executive leadership
CEO needs to make employees feel appreciated, not just as mere "worker bees"
Listen to employees, they have good ideas (and aren't as dumb as you think) and are speaking to the customers

    Pros

An okay place to start a career so long if you don't stay too long.

    Cons

The salaries have always been on the low side for the San Diego Metro area. Benefits have been very meger or non-existent. 401K company matching only recently were brought back after about six or seven years. Very small rate of matching.

    Advice to Management

Care more about your people with better benefits.
