I have been working at Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Team-oriented organization who values the importance of health care in and around the community. Each team member helps each other be successful. Great training hospital for medical students.

    Cons

With technology comes elimination of some jobs. This happens in all settings of the health care industry though. Finding other avenues within the company for these educated and trained employees would benefit both parties greatly.

    Advice to Management

Holding various job skill training classes hospital wide for employees so that those interested are cross trained in areas where specific requirements such as college degrees or certifications aren't required at that time but having the opportunity to achieve that goal at a later date is your benefit to the employee.

I worked at Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital full-time

    Pros

Performing the work I was hired to do. Supportive direct supervisors.

    Cons

Upper management seems to have lost vision for the hospital. There have quite a few people let go in the last couple of years. Seems to be a culture of rewarding lazy people.

    Pros

Management works hard for each and every employee

    Cons

Employees are not always aware how much nicer they have it here than in other hospital work environments.

    Advice to Management

You all listen, and respectfully give feedback in a respectful - polite manner no matter how difficult it maybe.

    Pros

Progressive management who are very concerned with fiscal responsibility, growing the business for financial stability and serving the needs of the community.

    Cons

Too much stress--work load is high with lots of pressure to constantly be more productive. Salary is based on years of experience and doesn't include specialty certifications.

    Advice to Management

Work to fairly acknowledge the contributions of ALL the departments! Nurses seem to get all the attention (i.e. gift baskets for Nurses Week) while there was NO acknowledgement by any senior management during Occupational Therapy Week and Physical Therapy Month. The hospital is financially solvent and stable--let the rehab department spend more time with patients to give more appropriate care with less concern for time constraints. Hold the doctors accountable to the same standards of behavior to which you hold the other health care professionals with regard to treatment of staff, using discretion in writing inpatient PT orders, writing appropriate diagnoses (rather than symptoms) on outpatient prescriptions, being more involved in a team approach with inpatients, etc.

  7. "Pleasant co-workers who give good effort, top management is not straightforward, financial stress"

    Pros

    Co-workers give good team effort
    Pleasant physical environment
    Good salary and benefits
Small and close knit local community, know most of the patients
Small workforce, get to know most co-workers in other departments
Close enough to Lansing to commute

    Cons

Financial stress of new building and limited information about it
    Uncertain job security
Top management spins positive story but workers still uneasy, don't trust
Many layoffs that were unheard of in the past

    Advice to Management

Monitor and work to improve employee morale and the stress and uncertainty in the work environment. Continue to offer good health care benefits and vacation
