I worked at Haymarket Media Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The breakfast Fridays are great, good snacks. Nice new modern office. Health Benefits are at a low premium compared to other companies. Overall benefits are decent.

    Cons

Can't speak for all departments but my department lacked on various accounts. Communication was poor between managers and employees. Extreme lack of training, questions are supposedly encouraged but generally not answered. The concept of team or teamwork is nearly nonexistent. Obvious nepotism. Due to this disorganization, it is a challenge to truly accomplish work and one might over exert themselves. Very high turnover. Individuals are either layed off or leave because of tarnished corporate culture and overall feeling of uncertainty.

    Advice to Management

Establish more organized onboarding and training processes. The systems and processes are unique. Rid of the nepotism and support the team and Improve company culture to foster a positive environment.

    Pros

    -It's a job with benefits
-You'll be given a lot of responsibility if you show initiative
-Depending on your publication, you can manage a big audience
    -Travel

    Cons

    -Poor salary
    -Tepid management
-Company goals/title goals are not aligned
-Does not give out appropriate resources (computers, software, company card for traveling)

    Advice to Management

My experience at Haymarket was punctuated by poor senior management, a top-down management style, and a lack of basic resources needed to do my job. The accounting team was so behind that it took months to be reimbursed for travel -- a significant expense for me to juggle given my lower-than-industry-standard salary. The medical division is struggling to compete because the company does not provide adequate resources or training for them to do their jobs. The company does the bare minimum in terms of employee engagement and does even less in terms of community involvement or interest. This is simply a place to get a (mediocre) paycheck.

I worked at Haymarket Media Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are some very quality employees, usually toward the bottom on the hierarchy. They all work hard and make the company run, yet credit is never given. Breakfast is normally nice.

    Cons

Extremely top heavy and not forward thinking. Feels like a company that folks just work at, not much advancement for career growth, extremely unorganized digitally mainly due to the lack of actual experience. Company wide is very clique-y, those on the inside have the power and money.

    Advice to Management

Look beyond senior management at who actually is producing quality product and engaging with fellow employees. Give more credit and tangible recognition.

I have been working at Haymarket Media Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fairly new to company (<1 year) but have already witnessed significant progress. Moving to new space will improve work environment. More flexible work structure reflects mgt trust and confidence in teams. Very responsive and supportive HR (new training sessions have been great). Growing business with impressive talent.

    Cons

Challenges with dev team impedes progress; current office space poor, but that's changing; lack of new technology can be frustrating and inefficient

    Advice to Management

Keep the positive momentum; can see great things ahead for Haymarket.

    Pros

Lot of company events with free food and drink. Generally interesting, passionate people.

    Cons

Ideas are ignored. Status quo rules the day. Ancient technology stack will never be replaced. Value is on hours worked, not quality of work.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

They stick to having a good work-life balance and don't force you to work crazy hours. Most co-workers are very nice, and we generally have a good time through-out the day.

    Cons

Not a lot of tech innovation or passion for the work, it seems like a lot of people treat this as "just a job" to put in their 40 hours a week. It often times feels like the technology side is almost like a contractor for the business end, instead of leading with technology.
