I worked at Hayneedle full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

The benefits were pretty good. If you like apologizing on every call this job is for you. Most customers were good to work with.

    Cons

No opportunity for advancement from call center to corporate office. Don't let them tell you there is advancement available. =THEY WILL NOT PROMOTE FROM CALL CENTER TO CORPORATE OFFICE. Never felt valued. Direct Supervisor was OK, but management never acknowledged long term employees. They put on a show at reception desk that young...

    Advice to Management

None. they wont take advice from low paying call center customer specialists, especially now that Walmart owns Hayneedle.

I have been working at Hayneedle full-time for more than a year

    Pros

An honest work-from-home job in an age where 90% of them are scams. Discreetly discriminates in hiring practices, unlike some call centers where you can guess with decent accuracy how many of your coworkers are on parole and/or have a criminal record.

    Cons

Promotions don't happen. You can job shadow anytime you like but this ends up being a guided tour of another position you'll never get. Sidewalk ends several blocks from the center, not very fun if you want to bike. Workload has effectively doubled post-buyout for remaining employees with no increase in pay or benefits. Work benefits are now those of WalMart. In other words, awful. Words such as "overhired"...

    Advice to Management

Whatever you were paid to sell out to WalMart wasn't nearly worth it. In the space of a couple months what was a vibrant and joyful workplace has degenerated into just another call center where nobody smiles and everyone is terrified of being fired on a daily basis. If you put half the effort into scrutinizing some of the vendors as you did your poor employees, I guarantee you'd be losing a lot less money to broken or...

I worked at Hayneedle full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

The people and management are very helpful and everyone generally helps each other out. Pay is pretty good for the work.

    Cons

Policies are very strict. Many good and tenured employees were lost due to attendance issues and honest mistakes. Customers (this is a call center environment) can be hard to deal with, just like any customer service position. Shift bidding.

    Advice to Management

Revisit attendance policy and other policy. Life happens and while the point system for attendance was pretty liberal in comparison with other companies, good employees were let go when they deserved a second chance. I would like to recommend your direct supervisors should have a little more say in this. Circumstances need to be considered. Also, shift bidding does not feel good to have to do every couple of months.

I worked at Hayneedle part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Ability to work from home Super casual dress code if you work at the call center

    Cons

$10/hour for sales is nowhere near enough - and don't count on commission. The confusing method of calculation is explained differently to each training class, and in the end maybe one or two people make in the $100 or $200 range each month. They pushed through multiple training classes, flooding the phone queues and thus diluting the calls and sales for everyone. Factor in insurance for those who need it, and paying...

I have been working at Hayneedle full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Overall great atmosphere among staff at call center. Really laid back and environment and fun people to be around. Plenty of opportunity to move up in the company.

    Cons

Although there is plenty of opportunity to move up in the company leadership weighs too heavily on interview portion of application process leaving a lot of incredibly talented individuals in the dust. Lots of room for improvement among management team. Operational supervisors are extremely helpful in regards to coaching and developing their associate's skills, but the same is not seen for upper management. Additionally...

Implement more positive reinforcement and coachings via management, not just supervisory staff. Acknowledge and recognize your senior staff. Develop a recruitment team at the call center.

I worked at Hayneedle full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Fixed hours, a sitdown job. The Chalco Call Center is nicely decorated and clean.

    Cons

Too much pressure. I saw too many people go out the door because they weren't able to make the quotas. Those that are good enough usually grow dissatisfied over the years. It's not an emotionally rewarding job. You can try moving into a lead, supervisor, tower, or corporate position, but the same story seems to hold: it either gets too tough and you get cut, or you manage to stay but grow frustrated and restless.

I have been working at Hayneedle full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

The employees here are wonderful people. They help you if you have a question and always greet you with a friendly "Hello!"

    Cons

There is little opportunity to advance. If a position is open to employees as well as externally, the job will be given to the external employee. They are incapable of hiring the amount of people that they need to cover their busy seasons causing all other departments to assist with the phones. This causes the other work to fall behind which, in turn, causes more upset customers and an increase in call volume; perpetuating...

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. If they are not happy, morale will go down and you will lose many quality people that have been loyal for years. When you have your job fairs, be sure to send the word out and have them at the correct times. If a job fair is only held during standard business hours you will only get the people that are not employed. If you have the fairs at off times, people who have jobs might be interested...

I have been working at Hayneedle full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

When I started with the company they had a desire to be different and serve the customers with exceptional customer service. Over time the emphasis has understandably changed to a sustainability model, but if the current restructuring is successful the two need not necessarily become mutually exclusive.

    Cons

Now they want to be no better than a big box retail store and management manages to their bonus structure rather than business needs. Management restructuring, recent demotions due to 'business needs,' and an increasingly hostile attitude towards the employees in the call center from the rank and file in the corporate office makes prospects for promotion look poor at best.

    Advice to Management

Actively review processes even after they are in place.

I worked at Hayneedle full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I liked working for Hayneedle as a company. They are very much "in the now" in terms of employee relations, training, and atmosphere. The call center environment is casual, and there are many different personality types employed by the company. Scheduling is moderately flexible - sometimes they will work with you and sometimes they cannot. As a company, they are one of the better organizations I've worked for.

    Cons

The job, on the other hand, is not one I would recommend to many people. The customer service call-center job is not for the soft, as you spend your days listening to customer complaints and problems, and some of the customers are very abusive. You are encouraged to "think outside the box" to resolve these problems, but really there is very little "outside the box" that you...

    Advice to Management

Let customer service reps focus on customer service over call time. Seasonal people especially come in with the desire to provide excellent customer service, but are then pushed into giving more cookie-cutter, quick responses in order to take tons of calls.

I have been working at Hayneedle full-time for more than a year

    Pros

It is a call center, but one in which the employees are given tools to actually fix customer's problems. Instead of saying, "We don't do that." to hundreds of people a day, we are encouraged to think outside the box to help customers with problems. A laid-back work atmosphere and easily-available overtime is a nice bonus.

    Cons

It is still a call center; there is not a mindlessly-easy employee interface, you actually need the training offered.

    Advice to Management

Don't make too many changes too fast; you have a good thing here and it would be sad to see the personal service buried under an avalanche of red tape and 'QA' demands.
