I worked at Hays full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good training. Good commission plan. A lot of nice employees in Canada.

    Cons

In North America, managers have zero decision making power. The President's yearly messages contradict each other and he has no loyalty to his staff. Turnover is high because of this. Back office rule with an Iron fist and actually hamper sales.

    Advice to Management

Reward people who have performed well for you for several years rather than discarding them to focus on new starters. Live up to what you have promised your staff. Don't lie to people. Treat people with respect. I'm at a recruiting agency now that does this, and it's awesome!

I have been working at Hays full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They promote everyone, it's based on targets achieved. Club trips twice a year for top performers. Leave early Fridays if you meet the billing requirements. Very laid back, everyone swears which is not really a pro but that's how it is. Salary is a joke as is the commission.

    Cons

Very senior management including president Vice President and President are obviously of basic education which means they hire people with little to no experience. No one is this company has any business degree or background which shows in behaviour and lack of professionalism. They put people in PIPS and leave them to fail.

    Advice to Management

Be professional, it's obvious that you lack basic business principles. The top people shouldn't swear nor should they gossip. You will not get professional employees because you are not professional and an English accent doesn't mean that you are.

I worked at Hays full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Victoria office is a short walk from the station.

    Cons

Where do I start? The pay compared to other rec companies is not good, the culture is pretty poor as you're expected to give a % of your commission to a colleague simply for passing you a role, which they've done zero work for apart form taking a phone call. The management are pretty useless, and senior management do not care about their staff at all. They have an attitude that if you disagree with something you can leave.

    Advice to Management

No point, they don't listen. Very arrogant.

    Pros

    Cons

Bullying culture, managers poor leadership, more stick than carrot. Poor benefits

    Advice to Management

Look after your staff it's your only asset

    I worked at Hays full-time

    Pros

Decent systems - That's really all.

    Cons

You can't trust management - They lie, spin and are just blatantly dishonest to clients, candidates and staff.

    Advice to Management

Try being honest and admit to yourself you are full of cr*p.

    I worked at Hays full-time

    Pros

    - Reputable Company, when you mention to people that you work at Hays they recognise the company.

    - Good Location to Work at

    Cons

    - A lot of micromanagement
    - Don't really value employees efforts
    - Not much work/life balance or flexibility working within that space
    - The IT structure is probably one of the worse in my experience in the industry (very disorganised) > no solution to solving things (only providing bandaid solutions)
    - Management don't really care about their employees only caring about results.
    - No room for progression or improvement

For the time I worked there, I did not enjoy it. I saw people come and go within the Sydney office and it's proof that there's something wrong.

    Advice to Management

Reevaluate your managers, invest more into your employees as they are the ones who make the business.

I worked at Hays as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Showed basic effort in ensuring that the needs of contractors are met.

    Cons

They regularly messed up earnings, showed little or no concern for contractors and could never resolve a problem without causing more havoc.

    Advice to Management

Please employ more competent staff to ensure that they do a thorough job with candidates they hire. There seems to be incoherence in the work done by your staff. Spoke with five people about a specific problem and no one cared to follow through, instead, they messed up my weekly earnings.
