    Pros

    Excellent Team support
    Progression path was made clear
In charge of your own success
    Excellent training programme
Chance to meet great people as it's a sociable job
    Loads of social events

    Cons

Long hours especially if you're commuting from outside
of London. The targets when you first start seem daunting . There is no option to work from home which would be useful during periods when getting into work is difficult I.e. Train strikes

    Advice to Management

Perhaps set time aside for new employees to observe their managers in the first week. I accept you learn by doing but learning from those experienced individuals and seeing how they operate successfully would be great.

I worked at Hays plc (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Each individual specializes - become expert in your area
Vibrant culture - young and young at heart
    Approachable senior managers

    Cons

Too transactional... in a relational business
Short term thinking leads to candidates feeling abandoned
Too much reliance on cold calling for business development
International transfers are given more promotional opportunities

    Advice to Management

Provide equal opportunity to locally educated employees when it comes to promotions, etc.
Put more emphasis on marketing to gather leads vs. cold calling.... it is hurting your market image.

I worked at Hays plc full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    good training.
stable-ish environement (your account managers can lose their job leaving recruiters confused, recruiters can be switched to departments without their consent)
    party athmosphere

    Cons

    - talent brokers have to modify the cvs themselvs (no marketing departement to do it for you)
    - talent broker has to create the contract themselvs and focus on the administrative tasks (no hr department that does it)
    - very low pay for what you are doing, but like i said, a great door to start your recruitment career.
    - cult like mentality (they have a slogan saying they are the best recruitment company in the world etc etc)
    - You have certain benchmarks to attain each month not related to placements
(a certain number of in person interviews or phone calls)
    - Their database isn't that efficient (it takes 4-24h to enter a CV found from linkedin in their system. Must send representation forum for the candidate through the system : therefore you are forced to work `rogue`(find your own solutions) or accept a max 24/h delay with your candidate for the recruitment process

    Advice to Management

bi-anually pay raises would be advized / raises based on trimester productivity ?

I have been working at Hays plc (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Working at Hays has been a fantastic career building opportunity for me. There is always great job prospects and new opportunities to build on knowledge and experience across many different areas of the business. This coupled with the many social and charity events that are actively encouraged, help build a sense of community within the company. Also, If you work hard enough, then you get the reward and recognition it deserves, which helps push you on to achieve more!

    Cons

Can't say there is any to be honest. Staff are actively encouraged to give feedback, and any areas for improvement get addressed very quickly.

I have been working at Hays plc full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's all about KPI's and fees at Hays - great if you are competitive like myself. Very rewarding and your success is always noticed by management and colleagues. Most people are easy to get along with, creating a healthy work environment and sense of comradery. Help is always there when you need it, most people are very approachable and willing to help out.

    Cons

Micromanagement is a huge issue at Hays - employees are expected to keep journals and daily planners outlining their intentions which is carefully reviewed and monitored by several managers.
The base rate is incredibly low considering the hours worked. Remuneration almost feels like playing roulette, just pray that you are lucky enough that you land on an established desk as you will feel immense financial pressure if you need to start a desk from scratch and earn no commission for 6 months.

    Advice to Management

Let people hit their targets and KPIs in a way that suits them. It shouldn't feel like you have a babysitter watching your every move to make sure you are blocking your day exactly how they would like. People can be very productive in different ways - shouldn't need to have a cookie cutter method to slap on every associate. I understand this is to help with time management, but micromanaging to the extent that Hays does can lead to feelings of anxiety and unnecessary pressure on an employee who would otherwise perform at a higher level.
