I worked at Hayward USD full-time

    Pros

Great teachers care about students. Some administration were good communicators. Good pay. You choose your benefits which could be positive.

    Cons

Curriculum goals of school administration and district were conflicting. You choose your benefits which could be costly.

I have been working at Hayward USD full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Feel like you're making a difference helping those who need it most, one of the highest paying districts around, centrally located in the bay area, diverse and committed staff.

    Cons

Student body is typically underserved, underschooled, comes from a non-English speaking family with little home engagement - this brings a whole system of challenges. Administration changes every 2-3 years at site and district level, so there is little follow-through on directives. Many older employees who are taking home big paychecks but aren't keeping up with the changes in education. Becoming unaffordable to live and work here (though that is a more regional problem). Very expensive benefits package, cheapest is $700/person monthly, I think

I worked at Hayward USD part-time

    Pros

The only pro would probably be the pay.

    Cons

    -rude/patronizing supervisor
-orientation is supposed to help you with your new job, but the actual job is so much more different than what was explained at orientation.
-no guidance whatsoever. They just leave you with your class as soon as you start.
    -overwhelming

    Advice to Management

Be more involved with your sites. Provide training on behavior management because you hire a lot of college students with minimal experience in that area. That's why you have a high turnover rate for this position.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Hayward USD full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The starting salary for a first teacher is high and there are unofficial, loose programs in place to help new hires become aquatinted with the school's policies.

    Cons

The staff is incredibly unfriendly and unwelcoming. The turnover rate is extremely high, which may be why the staff rarely goes out of their way to meet new hires. The administration offers kind words and support to a select few members of staff, and often snubs all other accomplishments from staff who do not belong to this group.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to get to know and appreciate all of the good things that your staff is doing, not just those in performing arts. Offer more support to the drama department! If a parent mentions a helpful teacher during the coffee with the principal meeting, reach out to that teacher and actually TELL them.

I have been working at Hayward USD full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Great pay, varied work sites

    Cons

Terrible management unbelievably so. If the union staff were privatized the management would have been terminated long ago. Poor organization and communication from staff.

    Advice to Management

Clean house. Get rid of unprofessional people who show up to work whenever they feel like it and don't communicate with their workers. Consider private contractors for custodian work Because the current situation is not working.
