I have been working at Hazelden Betty Ford full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Quality care, excellent counselors, flexible, great benefits, beautiful and clean environment, hard working employees

    Cons

Things change quickly-sometimes with little warning-but it is in response to different needs of people served

    Advice to Management

Keep working on communication- especially with those of us working with patients

I worked at Hazelden Betty Ford full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Caring clinical staff
    Beautiful facilities and grounds
    Extensive focus on marketing
    Decent benefits
    Nice cafeteria
    Mission is noteworthy
Recognized as a leader in the field
Diverse product line - treatment, publishing, grad school

    Cons

Salaried Clinical staff are chronically overworked and management have not yet been able to address this effectively to make a difference. Very difficult to keep up with all the changes in processes and oppressive documentation requirements. Not enough focus on training. Recent cuts in admin and support staff made it much worse by putting more pressure on direct patient care staff. The work did not go away when the staff were cut. Company has a history of reorganizing frequently, causing chaos and creating more work for everyone.

    Advice to Management

Needing more focus on decreasing the workload of direct patient care staff and streamlining administration and documentation processes.

I worked at Hazelden Betty Ford full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Salary and benefits are competitive for being a non-profit. Strong focus on helping the client overcome their addiction. Many employees that live in the area have been with the company for 20 years or more.

    Cons

Few advancement opportunities, they prefer to hire from outside. The work environment can best be described as each person working in a silo versus being team oriented.

I have been working at Hazelden Betty Ford full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Patient contact. It’s rewarding to see the change of the patients from when they admit to discharge.

    Cons

Where do I begin. This place has been mismanaged since Mark Mishek became CEO. They have done many cutbacks and layoffs to many times in the last two years.

    Advice to Management

All you executives need to be fired! You have poor management skills, driving Hazelden into the ground. The money you make is ridiculous and if you all even to a small pay cut, that would help Hazelden. You all made your bed, not sleep in it!

I have been working at Hazelden Betty Ford full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Ethical, organization truly wants to help people with addictions and their families.

    Cons

Poor negotiation with insurance companies, combined with increased costs with expansion and merger with Betty Ford, has resulted in a low margin, high volume situation. The result is a necessarily "conveyer line" treatment. Increased staff stress, less personal treatment for patients.

    Advice to Management

Realize you are about undergo another round of voluntary staff turnover, with a loss of your best employees.

I have been working at Hazelden Betty Ford full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Nice grounds, decent insurance premiums

    Cons

Some staff work their butts off while others hardly work 30 hours a week. Managers play favorites and will turn on dedicated employees in a dime.

I have been working at Hazelden Betty Ford full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is not bad in my area. My immediate supervisor and co-workers are great.

    Cons

The senior leadership of this organization is excessively greedy, self-centered, and horrifically narcissistic. They are engaging in extreme cost cutting measures that make it impossible to do our jobs and create an environment of sheer misery.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to cut costs and overwork your staff. People are jumping ship faster than rabid rats on the titanic. You are unable to retain any decent clinical staff more than a year or two because of the significant burnout. Stop making financial decisions that put the lives of patients and employees in peril.

I worked at Hazelden Betty Ford full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are a tremendous amount of good people that work for this organization and they truly want to help people. Benefits are great.

    Cons

Upper management has created a very disorganized system that started with the merger with Betty Ford Center and ended with the implementation of a new EHR from Cerner. It was a complete disaster from the word go. I think they hide the truth from employees about changes and why they take place. There has been restructuring that has adversely effected many employees. It is too bad. This is not the place I knew from may years ago.

    Advice to Management

Stop buying into the press that you are selling about how wonderful the organization is doing and how great the treatment is and start looking at what is the next right thing to do instead.

    Pros

I would except there aren't any.

    Cons

Management is incompetent and fake. Be prepared to be lied to by your manager/supervisor. Supervisor is a known liar through out department. No respect for employees. Management is top heavy with no management experience. High turnover because people leave when they figure out the place is a joke. No direct link to HR, and HR is just as incompetent.

    Advice to Management

Spend the money and hire management with 4 year degrees who actually know how to manage people.
