I worked at Head Start of Lane County full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Environment of growth and support. Cultural sensitivity and tolerance are fostered. This is a great place to work!

    Cons

Government assistance allocation makes for difficult decisions when funds have been cut and some people lose their job and children are cut from the program as well.

    Advice to Management

Continue to do what you're doing.

I have been working at Head Start of Lane County part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Holidays, weekends and summers off. Good for retired folks and those who have been out of the workforce for awhile (i.e. single moms).

    Cons

Pay too low, worse than comparable jobs in private industry.

    Advice to Management

Pay competitive wages: as a driver you make $11-$14/hour. Head Start should be paying the county average of $13-$18/ hour (as of 2019).

I have been working at Head Start of Lane County full-time

    Pros

Offering support and working with families in need

    Cons

Non-profit can mean lower pay. But, surprisingly not too much lower here.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Head Start of Lane County full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

The children and families that are being served.

    Cons

Everything from wages to the archaic review system that's being used. If your hope is to advance your career you'll need to be sure the Executive Director likes you... nothing else you've done will matter!

    Advice to Management

Start operating like you expect your staff to!

I worked at Head Start of Lane County

    Pros

Accommodating if you have an appointment during working hours. Good benefits after the probationary period. No overtime so you don't miss spending time with your family.

    Cons

Very unprofessional training. It consisted of the person who was turning over the position just telling me whatever popped into their head. They were very impatient, and sometimes quite rude, when I asked questions. There were several higher-ups whose demands often conflicted with each other. One would tell me to delay a task while another would scold me for not completing it. Another one would tell me things were fine...

    Advice to Management

Develop more professional/organized training. Communicate clearly.
