Good company to work for. Very supportive of their employees. Great Benefits and PTO.

    I worked at Healogics full-time

    Pros

    Great evidence based protocols
    Hyperbaric treatments
Outpatient setting and seeing patients heal

    Cons

Corporate push of more and more patient appointments without appropriate staffing

Hiring untrained staff nurses with little nursing experience

Focus on the dollar by program/marketing director and usually made from the overuse of Hyperbarics

    Backstabbing politics

    out of state HR department

    Pros

Great hours, M-F no weekends, good pay, no low-balling, dynamic coworkers, reasonably good support from the Corporate Office

    Cons

For a Manager/Director job, too much emphasis on "selling", which in this case was detailing like a drug rep. Guess what? It doesn't work and eventually repels docs.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the hospital partners more. Contract retention is the lifeblood of Healogics, yet the style is to "ram an agenda" onto the client which never really made sense. As one AVP who is also "former" told me, our job was to advise the client, then she went on to say what the PD never heard at DASH (quarterly meeting) that what the client does is ultimate the client's choice no matter how much pressure is put on PDs. And too much emphasis on HBOT. Also, VERY limited opportunities for advancement and if one falls into a "diverse" category.

I worked at Healogics part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The Doctors were great and at the top of their game as were most of the staff I worked with...we had a GREAT wound care center...one of the best I believe.

    Cons

I loved my job but could not stay another day with no support from the management.

    Advice to Management

Consider acuity when scheduling clinic times. The clinic would consistently and regardless of suggestions, schedule q15 min clinic visits no matter who was coming in the door and no matter what needed to be done, new patient or not, debridement required or not, unna boot application, multiple new wounds, pt on a stretcher requiring multiple wound vac applications...didn't matter. The place was run like an assembly line and monkey wrenches were to be expected and blamed on the nurses when patients would be waiting over an hour frequently. "Wait times" were based on how long a patient sat in the waiting room, but in reality, a patient might be wisked away to the patient room in less than 10 minutes, but then have to wait another 30 minutes or more depending on what kind of acuity patient the nurse was having to deal with in the next rooms. The Doctors frequently sided with the nurses but had to be "diplomatic" about it lest they loose their jobs. EVERY supervisor needs to work an ENTIRE day in the clinic as a case manager, expeditor, dressing nurse, etc., every 3 months just to keep up with the current status of the clinic so they will understand what staff are having to deal with. Just because they "used" to be in the lower position and "used" to work in the clinic, doesn't matter when you consider that the census has doubled or tripled since they "used" to work in the clinic. Dynamics change and they need to support the nursing staff and Doctors for the employee sake and patient, not just the bottom line.

    Pros

Provides wound care education to new staff.

    Cons

Numbers driven, with unrealistic goals and expectations set forth by Healogics when it comes to both staffing models, and monthly new patients.

    Advice to Management

    1. Set realistic goals for new facilities. 2. The cnm cannot do both administrative and clinical duties. 3. Train staff at other healogics clinics to allow them to know how the flow of a normal workday is supposed to go, if there is no other clinical personnel to guide them that has worked at a healogics clinic before.

I worked at Healogics (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Healing patients, state of art wound care technology, 19 pto days at start,

    Cons

Lousy health insurance, no reward or recognition for outstanding performance. Measured solely on impersonal metrics. No room for advancement unless clinical. No support for dealing with hospital mgmt. No room for creative input; that is scorned upon. It's a franchise type of arrangement and you are exoected to follow blueprint precisely or are moved out of organization. PD turnover in my neck of woods was over 50% in several years i was there. Red flag!!

    Advice to Management

Get your onboarding together as an employee's success and tenure at an organization largely determined by successful onboarding. Need to create regional trainer positions to help train new employees. One week of home office training and follow-up training online is barely adequate. AVP only comes to visit to hand out reprimands. Motivates exclusively with negative reinforcement. Never heard of anyone congratulated for doing a good job. Constant strain of do I work for hospital or Healogics?
