I worked at Health Net full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A great team atmosphere dedicated to assisting patients achieve the best healthcare possible. Management team is engaged with the staff both medical and administrative. The medical director is very encouraging to all staff.

    Cons

Working here is only available in select parts of the United States. One location needs more space. More contracts with the company needs to be worked on. Training sessions for the company staff needs to be the same and more auditing needs to be done so that they can continue to achieve success.

    Advice to Management

My advise to management is the same that I have stated above. I would also like to recommend that the have the option of the administrative staff work from home. This would help with the space issue. This will make sure that there is enough space for a training room at each location.

I have been working at Health Net full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Co-workers care about doing a good job and taking care of members. Middle management supports their staff. Middle management does not micromanage.

    Cons

Acquired by Centene who has been making various changes. Changes in process before adequate staff and training has been acquired. They have an old school type of culture. Benefits have been significantly cut. Expensive health benefits. No HMO option. PTO cut. Company does not believe in telecommuting which will make it extremely difficult to find nurses in California as HN pay has never been competitive with Hospital system Case Managers. Main draw to the job is the telecommuting. Staff are never included when process changes are implemented. Very minimal room for advancement.

    Pros

Directors have open doors for viable discussions. Work hours are flexible. Different locations in California to meet other associates.

    Cons

The Departments do interact with each other. Very secretive. Nobody to back you from VP, doctor's, director's and manager's.

    Pros

Was a fairly relaxed atmosphere, flexible enough that you don't need to sweat if your child is sick or some other emergency. I understand the dress code has become stricter since merging with Centene, but the culture so far remains pleasant.

    Cons

Management is territorial. If you don't work in Woodland Hills, you can't expect a lot of candidness about what is happening above you and won't have much of a personal connection there either. Also tends to be easy to plateau career-wise here.

    Advice to Management

Don't be so California-centric. Other states have knowledge and experience which is valuable. Communication should be open-ended between management and employees. Morale sinks when people feel like they are in the dark all the time.

I worked at Health Net full-time

    Pros

Team environment. Good hours and flexible shifts. Pay is comparative to other similar jobs in the area. Plenty of opportunity for advancement.

    Cons

Cubicle environment with every movement been tracked and logged when your off the phone. Not enough team building events to get to know Co workers.

    Advice to Management

Cubicle environment with every movement been tracked and logged when your off the phone. Not enough team building events to get to know Co workers. Improvement in these areas would be helpful.

I have been working at Health Net full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A lot of autonomy and trust from management.

    Cons

Horrible benefits now that Centene has bought Health Net. Centene only offers PPO plans by way of an ASO plan, which means it's self-funded and no state regulators monitor the company to ensure the members receiving benefits (i.e., HN employees) are being treated fairly when it comes to cost and member rights.

    Advice to Management

Stop with the silo'd structure within the company - it only makes every meeting that much more painful since forward progress is rarely ever made.

    Pros

It's a job that paid me. Not much on the pro side unfortunately.

    Cons

I was hired for a claims position. 2 weeks into training was told I wouldn't be in claims but coordination of benefits. Was in cob for a month and was told I'm going back to claims.

    Advice to Management

Get organized and communicate!! Worst company I've worked for by far. Get it together management.
