I worked at Health Quality Ontario full-time

    Pros

Excellent staff with great knowledge base, extensive experience and fantastic work ethics. The technical staff go above and beyond their calling to promote the organisation and work hard to save tax-payers money

    Cons

Highly bureaucratic and heavy handed top level management with no real administrative or technical qualifications and zero administrative experience, which is definitely going to be the cause of the downfall of this organisation. Leave alone their arrogant demeanour, but their Mafia style actions against staff who question their corrupt process is going to have an immense backlash. It is time for the government to order an audit into the management practices and dissolve this top level management and bring a new management team of qualified and experienced individuals to save tax-payers money.

I have been working at Health Quality Ontario full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Has really good benefits. All the teams works really well with each other. Proper communication channels are established. Gives the opportunity to work from home as well 1-2 times per week which is great.

    Cons

I don't see any cons. May be some processes can be streamlined. Apart from that, it is a really nice place to work.

I have been working at Health Quality Ontario full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great place to work and make a lot of money with little actual work or responsibilities. This only applies to the following: people who never tell managers when something is a really bad idea, people who parrot everything their managers/directors do and say, people who are well connected in the health care field.

    Cons

If you are an honest, hard working, intelligent worker who cares about making improvements to the healthcare system - this is not the place for you. Your soul will die here. There are a lot of good people at this organization, but it's the bad apples, the smooth talkers, the well-connected people who are promoted into senior positions over the truly qualified. Watch out for people whose first jobs were at HQO, who started out in junior HSP positions and were promoted rapidly to more senior positions within one to three years. These are usually the severely underqualified people who were promoted because they toe the line, don't raise issues with management and say yes to everything. Also watch out for anyone who has been at the organization for more than 5 years who has a job title "Lead" or "Senior __". These people usually lead no one, have no responsibilities, and are drastically overpaid. They have been promoted simply because they have been there the longest and at some point during that time, there was no one better around. They don't leave because they know they will never find a better-paid position anywhere else, at least not one where they can get away with being on Instagram all day long instead of attempting to do anything that might be mistaken for work. Senior staffers who have work experience at other organizations before coming here tend to be better qualified.

I worked at Health Quality Ontario full-time

    Pros

Work can be very impactful and meaningful to improving patient lives. Met some great people and hopefully they will be long-time friends. Nice exposure to health system and government processes (even if it sucks, it is what it is)

    Cons

If you know the right people you get ahead. Many leaders are self-serving. They pay lip service to listening to concerns. There is no support from human resources, they are not on your side.

I have been working at Health Quality Ontario full-time

    Pros

    Great people and positive environment.

    Cons

Always have to answer to the ministry, cannot do anything on our own. VERY low salary (especially for admins) compared to other healthcare organizations. Hard to work your way up the ladder, not many opportunities.

I have been working at Health Quality Ontario

    Pros

Close to subway lines. Free water.

    Cons

Bullying and harassment are embedded in the organizational culture. Layers of management and leadership cover up each others to sweep concerns raised by staff under the rug. Once being labeled, individual staff would be targeted for non-stop attacks from the management gangs. Take a hard look at the turnover rate to see the hiring and resigning sprees. Only those buttered up management would get promoted even without experiences and credentials. Annual performance review is a tool to punish non-conformers. HQO is all fluff with a rotten core at huge expense of taxpayers' money.

I have been working at Health Quality Ontario full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Competitive salary, good benefits, TTC-accessible location - The mandate/vision of the company is inspiring, so it's satisfying to contribute to the work - Generally people are friendly. Less petty office politics compared to other organizations I have worked for, but HQO is relatively small

    Cons

    - It is very obvious that some managers/team leads/senior analysts are only in their position because they have been there longer than anyone else, or are a favourite of the manager/director. It is not uncommon for junior staff or new hires to have more experience than the person one to two levels above them. Once they realize this, they tend to leave - General lack of technical expertise where it counts most. A lot of time and taxpayer money are wasted doing things manually, and no one bothers to try and improve things. - For such a small organization, the lack of transparency regarding decisions about timelines and projects is high.

I have been working at Health Quality Ontario full-time

    Pros

    Central location, accessible by subway.

    Cons

The organization claims that they value equity, yet favouritism is rampant. Senior leadership team is a complete joke. If you do not know someone important, forget about getting hired. If you are not white, forget about getting promoted. You will stay at the same dead-end position, doing the same thing everyday. You will be working with a bunch of unambitious braindeads. Your days will be filled with pointless meetings, so you will have to work overtime to finish your work.
