I have been working at Health Shared Services BC for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great benefits and decent salary Some very talented staff with long term commitment to delivering technology and solutions to support Health Authorities and health care delivery

    Cons

    1) Disappointing lack of direction, budget or authority to implement proactive solutions to support Health Authorities. 2) Too many contractors hired as executives and management, with conflicts of interest, making strategic decisions without best practices, that only benefit themselves in the long term. 3) Contracted Executives and Contracted managers continue to replace employees with contractors with zero... long term interest or commitment in seeing quality services delivered to health authorities. They lack the sense of pride and personal investment for success most employees have. 4) Zero transparency from executives and management, gives a sense of instability and lack honesty from the leadership. 5) There has in the past been some absolutely disrespectful treatment from one particular executive, with profanity laden attacks on some managers and staff. Vile vulgar language that would see an employee fired in a heart beat. This executive has recenly left BCCSS after 2 years, and been hired at PHSA in a leadership role. Name rhymes with AJ, but spelled differently. 6)Keeping in mind that all staff are required to complete respectful workplace training, it would appear that these same standards do not apply to some executives. Advice to Management

Live up to the same standards you would expect from your employees. Transparency would also go a long way to building trust.

I have been working at Health Shared Services BC full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Consistent day time hours, benefits, pension, vacation days

    Cons

The Director and middle management team are the main reasons why everyone is quitting. It is a horrible experience. Most Associates are looking for work outside the organization. There is an extremely high turnover and no seniority left in the department to help train or support. Overall the department experience is toxic, depressing, overworked and completely mislead.

    Advice to Management

Replace the current leadership team at Employee Records and Benefits as soon as possible. It is a huge issue that no is willing to address and as a result the department has a bad reputation. This should have been a great opportunity, but in reality is a nightmare. I am in shock that nothing is being addressed by the poor leadership team - especially the Director and middle management.

I have been working at Health Shared Services BC full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great benefits Location Public Service experience Great people (minus the senior level management team)

    Cons

Toxic culture Mistrust amongst management Lack of leadership High Turnover Lack of vision No opportunities for growth

    Advice to Management

Replace the Senior Management. Managers, Directors & VPs have no clue on how to run an organization. There is no strategy or vision. Senior level management are not capable to run the organization & do not trust one another. The culture here is toxic. Advice to Ministry of Health - Clear out all senior level management & replace to have a chance at succeeding

I have been working at Health Shared Services BC full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good, decent job if you are able to just focus on another day, another dollar, another day closer to retirement, mentality

    Cons

No vision from any management, directors, VPs, execs Sad workplace when some clerks have more vision than 'management' Toxic culture for anyone who wants to be vested in their work place Always battling fires, and never ahead of the game Many more to list

    Advice to Management

I prefer to be vested in my work place, and this makes it impossible

I have been working at Health Shared Services BC full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    The hours are not bad

    Cons

There is no development offered, this organization is based basically in seniority. If you are looking for progress and growth then look somewhere else. Increases is something that you will never get. There is no flexibility to manage your time. Atmosphere of distrust.

I have been working at Health Shared Services BC full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Benefits superior to most plans. Easy to move laterally within organization. Difficult to develop in the company due to a unionized mentality in structure

    Cons

Management. Poor leadership and no dynamic aspect to the position. Role is administrative and under appreciated. Requires some problem solving but lacks adequate training and support

    Advice to Management

Invest in developing staff and provide education opportunities

I worked at Health Shared Services BC for more than 5 years

    Pros

Opportunities for growth and learning as well as promotion from within. Often have great workshops available.

    Cons

Very demanding a organization with high expectations that are often hard to attain. As a result often a very political and toxic work environment. Little opportunity for work life balance.

    Advice to Management

More realistic expectations. Stop expecting and demanding those at any level of leadership team to work long hours and weekends. It should not be necessary to be a work alcoholic to succeed.
