I worked at HealthEast full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Was a great place to work!!

    Cons

I worked at st Joe's for over 25 yrs. Actually started my career there. People cared for each other and it was a true "hometown" feel. Since the new CEO came HE overall started to turn south (and now we know that the rumors were true even 5yrs ago that they were setting themselves up to be "merged" with another company)! Long went the days of a faith based hospital. Long are the days of people who really cared about their staff. Now are the days of consultant firms, UHS and others to come in and help run HE. The senior leaders really were too worried about keeping their jobs and not worried enough to retain the staff that knew how to run service lines. Hopefully Fairview will bring back a better senior leadership team.

    Advice to Management

Embrace your directors and managers. Be transparent!! Don't hide in the corner office and make decisions that effect the service line.

I have been working at HealthEast full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great Coworkers, decent pay, vacation time, benefits. Management is more employee focused than when first implementing changes. New computer system is up to date with other healthcare organizations. Sending important information is efficient and effective.

    Cons

HealthEast used to be #1 place caring for patients.
Centralization viewed as bad decision, unnecessary, waste of money.
High employee turn over since the implementation of centralization
Lower morale across entire organization. Promoting efficiency and new fangled services without actually able to deliver effectively leaving patient's with disappointment
Not enough staff to effectively deliver
Employees with no experience in healthcare hired for positions that require medical background experience

    Advice to Management

HealthEast was the best organization before centralization. Physicians went though a lot of schooling to be able to do what they do. Without them, the organization would not exist. Stop creating physical distance between their support staff and the physicians, and it would help immensely with morale. The biggest need is for people working together closely together. Since the new system, easy tasks really aren't getting done as efficient as before, because information is passed to too many people where there is communication breakdown and time wasted. Centralization was not a good decision financially. Fix this issue, and watch financial numbers, patient happiness, and employee morale go up!

Finding ways to end someone’s employment wouldn’t be fair and it’s not to anyone’s benefit. It takes time and money to hire people, it’s harder for other employees when a job is open and our patients... More

I have been working at HealthEast full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A lot of great employees that are in desperate need of good management.

    Cons

Horrible management- From top to bottom! FV clean them all out and start fresh!
Forced VBI- Note to HE. Don't bother telling me that it's not forced. It is. They count the number of ideas that you come up with each month. It's gone over in roundings and in yearly reviews. Ridiculous! It should be used voluntarily. It's crazy to think that employees can come up with ideas every month. Our group is always scrounging to come up with enough ideas to fill our quota. We will even use the need for a supply, such as I need a garbage can just to fill it. If this VBI was such a great tool, why are we still millions in the hole. I know we have loss from the aging population, but that is not all. Don't forget, we can all see the number of claims sitting in work filters. If the VBI was so wonderful, the high number of claims wouldn't be sitting in there. If you want to improve processes, and save time and money, stop paying all your employees to stand in a circle each morning for 15 minutes or longer going over the same useless questions, and stop forcing employees to waste time coming up with useless ideas. Use the VBI board as a voluntary tool that employees can use when they feel it is necessary, and limit the huddle to 1-2 times a week for any area that is not directly dealing with patients.

    Advice to Management

Ha-Not worth the time trying to tell management anything. They do not listen, and HR is no help at all.

    Jun 5, 2017 – VP Revenue Cycle

Thanks for having the courage to say we’re not perfect yet. Knowing that we’re learning, I think it’s useful to remember the purpose of VBI. It’s a system of continuous improvement. Sounds like you... More
