I have been working at HealthNow New York full-time

    Pros

Excellent cheap health insurance, remote work

    Cons

Ancient technology, isolated from rest of world. No real career path.

    Advice to Management

Outsource IT. You don't keep up with the times or even licensing and support. Staff has no skills to maintain systems due to lack of management interest.

    Pros

As the healthcare sector is undergoing transformation, HNNY is also undergoing a lot of change, and for the better. With change comes ambiguity, and for those who step up, the opportunities to grow their professional skills.

People who like challenges, want to make a difference, HNNY is the place to be.

    Cons

Most organizations have some problems and HNNY is no different. If I had to nitpick:
    1. Inefficient business processes and intra-department hand-offs.
    2. Not everyone is held to high performance standards.
    3. HR is broken, unresponsive, and slow-moving; dictating rather than partnering with business units.

    Advice to Management

    1. Fix HR or outsource it.
    2. Ensure performance is measured consistently and the low performer are worked out of the organization quickly.
    3. Focus on creating operational efficiencies. That will make employees happy by minimizing the daily frustrations.

    Pros

Collaborative work environment with almost everyone in the same building.
Engaged in the community through volunteerism and sponsorships.
    Continually advancing technology.
    Always looking for feedback.

    Cons

Changing traditional ways of doing things is sometimes difficult but persistence and proof pays off. It takes time but improvements are always made.

    Advice to Management

Maintain current procedures and continue to allow proofs of concept and new ideas to keep this a great place to work.

    Pros

Good Salary, Good Time Off, Good 401K Program, Good Work Schedule.

    Cons

Lack of Strong IT Management. Basically, Good and Competent IT Staff but Management allowed IT work to be done outside the department by others leading to poor systems control.

    Advice to Management

Select a plan, work with the plan, stick to the plan and see it through. Stop trying to reinvent every time a small hurdle comes about.

    Pros

Gym, parking ramp, cafeteria on site, you'll meet genuine people

    Cons

Ever since the new leadership came around, the culture has completely shifted. Pay and benefits were not the best, raises are bull for what you deal with, bonuses are nonexistent most years.

    Advice to Management

Don't be so catty and dramatic (mainly the women), you don't have to trample all over someone to get ahead. That's how women get a bad reputation in a workplace

    Cons

Not for profit Blue that can have wide variations in leadership direction and capabilities.

    Advice to Management

Build a long term market vision and stick to it, making short term adjustments where necessary.

    Pros

Co-workers are really really nice and helpful. They will help you with anything you need help with.

    Cons

No Opportunities to move up in the company. PTO is used for vacation as well as for sick days. Work from home is very hard to get. Immediate Management does not care about you. They like to put more work on less people and suddenly moving people in and out of projects.

    Advice to Management

I worked at HealthNow New York (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay was nice, and clients were great.

    Cons

Micromanagement, Supervisors & Directors have no idea what they are doing. They do not understand the struggle their employees deal with on a day to day because their bottom line is profit. There is a corporate setting that clearly does not advocate for it's employees and you feel expendable (and vulnerable) 90% of the time. When you are in a position that requires you to provide Client Satisfaction, it is almost impossible because there is a conflict of sales vs. service. If they become unhappy with you FOR ANY reason they will make sure that you are terminated (however necessary)..... Then will provide negative feedback when trying to obtain a new position with another company.

    Advice to Management

Realize that just because you are the "boss" does not mean you know how to deal with issues on the "front line". Then don't try to cover up and blame others for your leadership faults when it comes to your "higher-ups".
