I worked at HealthSparq full-time (Less than a year)

      Pros

      - Lots of very kind, smart, talented people work at HeatlhSparq. - Good benefits package and ongoing perks. - Nice location by the waterfront.

      Cons

      - The UX/Research team leadership team is manipulative, bullying and diminishing of new talent. - Does not invite new ideas and support them, but plays politics at the expense of product/client/company health. Immature managers. - Top down approach. Hierarchical and blaming culture. - Scapegoat talented people who should be supported and utilized. Advice to Management

Get objective and mature yourselves for the sake of the company. It's not all about your personal comfort level. Learn more about the UX field - educate yourselves and cultivate talent and actually talk to your team with good faith and trust. The politics and diminishment is an old and tired way of managing. I have been working at HealthSparq full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

The people at HealthSparq are awesome to work with. The work life balance is great. The pay is competitive and there is ample opportunity to move up (because of high turnover). Despite all the chaos and unnecessary fire drills it's a fun place to work.

      Cons

Most of the time it seems like everyone is on a different page, resulting in lots of completely unnecessary fire drills when people realize everyone is on a different page. Chaotic organization leads to lots of frustration and high turnover in engineering.

      Advice to Management

Project management feels like they're shooting from the hip with a blindfold on most of the time, please work on getting actual requirements and coordinated timelines in place for feature work

      Disapproves of CEO

I worked at HealthSparq full-time for more than a year

      Pros

There are some good, smart people - if they were allowed to contribute more, it would be better. Many people care about the mission. Flexible work environment.

      Cons

Management team that is mis-aligned, CEO who isn't strategic, doesn't listen to others or demonstrate real leadership. The product isn't good and clients know it. Women hold no leadership positions.

      Advice to Management

Continue to make leadership changes, invest in your people, increase the diversity of opinion you seek.

      I worked at HealthSparq full-time

      Pros

Part of the Cambia Family, so despite the positioning that it is a scrappy start-up, it has the benefits and well tested HR processes of a larger established corporation... Offerings continue to resonate with Health Plans customers and the rest of the Health Care Industry. The industry truly needs the solutions they offer. They manage to hire great people who are smart, talented and committed.

      Cons

Every day is a different crisis. Customers are seen as the enemy. (If they would just stop demanding that the products do what they are supposed to...) . What HealthSparq says - to customers, to employees, etc. - is often very different than what it does. Promises made by sales... Descriptions of product capabilities... Plans for departments... Deadlines... Delivery dates... Job descriptions... Advancement discussions......

      Advice to Management

Need a strong vocal leader at the helm. Under promise, over deliver. (That goes for employees as well as customers.)
