I worked at Heartland Business Systems full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The location was close to my home and centrally located.

    Cons

Worst place I have ever worked in my life. Horrible culture, no employee appreciation, HR leader is the most incompetent I have ever encountered. Whole company upper management needs serious overhaul.

    Advice to Management

Get a real business advisor to actually let the staff give input on restructure of upper management. Keep Peter out of the mix!

I worked at Heartland Business Systems full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good amount of remote work, you might get a company car. That's it.

    Cons

Horrible educational opportunities, zero opportunities to shadow other engineers, horrible horrible communication between teams and ESPECIALLY with upper management. The absolute worst part of working here is management does not have your back. They will not communicate with you, they will not assist you if a project is going south, they will not respond to your emails, and they will throw you under the bus instead of standing up to their clients.

    Advice to Management

Treat your engineers better. You are quickly gaining a very bad reputation as a company that treats you engineers like garbage.

I worked at Heartland Business Systems full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Health Insurance was pretty good for a High Deductible Plan with HSA support. 401K has a match. Nothing spectacular, but decent. There are a small number of GREAT, supportive people at the company. Company cars for engineers are newer vehicles and are maintained fairly well. Fitness Center in house for employee use.

    Cons

If you are a woman and you excel at technology, don't bother considering this company. The work environment for women is degrading. Many of the men in the company, from upper management to sales reps and various engineering leads, treat women as though they are completely incompetent and have absolutely no value to the organization. Harassment is not taken seriously and don't even think about asking to be paid what the men are making. Women are placed in lower level positions and when a woman does make it to a management level, they are treated with such disrespect that eventually they resign. Most women in this organization work in accounting, service coordination or sales support. If this is where you want to be, go for it, but don't expect advancement, don't expect raises, and don't expect anyone to be held accountable for anything. Everyone in this organization does their own thing. There is no structure and no definitive plan. Customers will degrade engineers because sales let them. Employees are not praised for work well done, with the exception of the random pat on the back email from the CEO for certification accomplishments. Job descriptions are non-existent or if you are provided one, HR will not base your position off it. You are expected to do more than you were told you would be doing when you had your interview and will be working on projects that you have no or little knowledge of the technology. Be VERY aware of what you are getting yourself into. Ask a lot of questions. Get things documented. And if you are a woman, look somewhere else.

    Advice to Management

Treat ALL your employees with respect. Create a plan and stick to it. Hire people in management who are do-ers, not just strategists. Praise your staff for work well done and be more transparent in your bonus and commission structure. And ultimately, train your accounting staff. (They SHOULD be able to add and subtract.)
