One of the better DSO’s out there
May 5, 2023 - Registered Dental Hygienist, RDH in Austin, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
-Lots of opportunity for CE and if it is taken in homeroom, it is paid at your regular hygiene hourly pay. -60 minutes for a standard recare appointment and 90 minutes for new patients. -They do seem to care more about the patients versus other DSOs I have worked with/for.
Cons
-Hygiene mentors are not as helpful as I would like them to be, although they are very sweet, they don’t seem to have as much experience as I would expect with different treatment modalities and products. They only teach and know what Heartland offers which can be limiting. It’s important to obtain knowledge from various sources like Kois, Dawson, AOMT, IAOMT, etc. in order to be well rounded. -Hygiene is expected to do a lot of administrative tasks such as insurance auditing and treatment plan presentation. This eats away at valuable patient chair time. -Same day treatment is pushed, even if there isn’t enough time, so as to always say “yes” to the patient.

8 years in. Full autonomy over how I treatment plan and practice Denistry.

I only think about work when I’m at work and I don’t get bogged down in managing. Heartland is good at keeping my hands busy so my income is very good. Because my practice is successful, Heartland bends over backwards to try and keep me happy, which mostly involves leaving me alone and letting me do what I want. Great community of docs in the company. We all feel like family and are willing and eager to help each other. Amazing opportunities to learn from docs that don’t just post good looking content on instagram but are actually thriving in real life practice. CE is unparalleled in the DSO landscape.
Cons
I’ve had a manger that made my life more difficult. Once I finally spoke up about it I never saw that manager again, but if you get partnered with someone you don’t mesh with it can be a problem, particularly if you don’t speak up for yourself or if you don’t have the production numbers to back you as a valuable asset to the company.

Heartland Dental culture allows it to rise above other DSOs
Apr 4, 2023 - General Dentist in Chicago, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Positive culture permeates throughout the organization and stresses personal accountability in a very positive and effective manner. Over twenty five years, HDC has figured out through either trial and error or the fact that it is doctor-led and understands that the doctor is the key to the success of a productive dental practice, how to create growth year in and year out. The support structure and continuing education programs really enable the doctors to attain success and really does allow non clinical issues to be handled by Heartland while clinical patient issues are handled by the doctor and doctor support like mentors. Doctor Mastery Program - great incentivized program for doctors to achieve mastery of their clinical skills.
Cons
The fact that it is such a large DSO, a doctor can feel as not a great fit, especially if their regional director or manager does not support or communicate or listen. The key is making sure the regional and local support is on the same page as the doctor.

Pros
Gives a good start for fresh graduates who still work strictly by the book
Cons
What I call the "redtape" of the job; tracking every metric you can imagine which are reviewed at every meeting, some after hours Zoom meetings are thrown in monthly

Pros
dental community to help and support you. good intro to systems for a new dentist
Cons
depends on office, but if your pmo and staff are not great that will slash your income dramatically. there is no quick fix for that. it will take time and you will paying the price. low % they rush to add more dentists in same office before you have enough patients make you attend very basic courses regardless of your interest and experience level. its very bad use of your time with lost production.
