I have been working at Heartland Financial USA full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great company to work for. Takes care of employees. Fast growing, so there are opportunities to advance if you want. Lots of employees with long tenures.

    Cons

Located in a small town which can make it hard to find like minded people and good talent to fill positions.

I worked at Heartland Financial USA full-time

    Pros

Some really nice people used to work there.

    Cons

Management is a freaking mess. Nobody has any idea how to grow or even maintain the business.

    Advice to Management

Stop with the Six Sigma crap. Banking is a time-sensitive business. You hired people with no experience in their jobs just because Six Sigma certification was on their resumes. None of them cared the least bit about the customers nor about securing the future for the employees. I have worked for Fortune 500 companies, and this never going to a top company to work for.

I worked at Heartland Financial USA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Management is open to listening to new ideas and they are great at keeping employee activities fun and exciting.

    Cons

While management is open to listening to new ideas, acting on them is hard to come by. Employees work extremely hard and put in long hours, sometimes for only a 2% pay increase and minimal vacation benefits. Mergers and acquisitions continue to take place, though increasing the back office support is not a priority.

I have been working at Heartland Financial USA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Learn a lot, independent work, challenging, multitasking, room to grow if you can dog through the mess, job security, good benefits

    Cons

Awful pay, not being compensated for your prior experience, your related degree and ability to quickly adapt to bigger workloads

    Advice to Management

Train better, pay more, respect people's work, appreciate and reward people who bend over backwards for their job

I have been working at Heartland Financial USA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Laid back work environment
    - Nice co-workers
    - Work/Life balance was very good
    - Good benefits

    Cons

    - Advancement opportunities
    - Pay is low for the field and raises are capped very low
    - Management:
             - Yearly goal structure needs work. It is very open with little direction from management
             - Hard work does not get noticed

    Advice to Management

Management needs to do more managing. My team had 2 members that got away with not doing there job on a regular basis and the others on the team ended up pulling more than their fair share of the load. This was presented to management and they stated "We don't want to have to micro-manage"
Just because you do not like to micro-manage does not mean it doesn't need to be done at times.

Great Sarbanes Oxley-related internal control experience. Receive great training related to BSA and overall banking industry audit test work.

    Cons

Departmental unity lacking. Pay not the greatest.
