    Pros

Great mission and belief in serving those who need our product. This smaller company has had some growth hiccups, but is truly interested in improving each day and the investment in career development has improved significantly.

    Cons

Investment in some additional infrastructure would pay for itself quickly.

    Advice to Management

Continue to believe in our people and allow our talented people to take ownership in their work.

I worked at Heartware (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are a lot of great people, constant collaboration and feedback, position learning experience with much room for growth.

    Cons

The Framingham office is located outside Boston (a con if you prefer the city environment of Boston), you must often communicate remotely with Florida, Paris, and other locations as much of the company is located there.

    Advice to Management

Continue looking for young and eager interns, as the health-tech industry is a booming industry that continues to grow and interest college undergraduates and recent graduate students.

I have been working at Heartware full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Amazing life saving technology, the HVAD product is amazing. Hoping that in the future, MVAD will be the next generation product at HeartWare that will save more lives. The CEO is great.

    Cons

Very, very difficult to get resources. Even senior management struggles to get administrative resources. Big divide between the Framingham office and the Miami Lakes office, 2 very different cultures that clash on a regular basis. Turnover is starting to become a major issue and hiring people into the company is challenging due to HR not having a strong team and the proper resources. HR needs to address the turnover issue and come up with a strategy.

    Advice to Management

Invest is some resources that will free managers and key contributors from the minutia of paperwork and old-school forms. Create a retention strategy that will help retain key performers.

I have been working at Heartware full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fantastic product, life saving, great CEO

    Cons

Recently hired management, yell and berate employees on a regular basis. Expectations of working long hours, and weekends on a regular basis. They say it is not the case, but the facts prove otherwise. Very little information flow downward. Interviews, even for engineers, are only done by senior management, resulting in a lack of support for whomever is hired (they don't even understand this). Was a great company to work for, but not anymore. Unless one shuts up and does what one is told, even if it is incorrect, expect to be severely punished.

    Advice to Management

Tough problem problem at this point, I wouldn't want to have to solve this.
