I worked at Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society

    Pros

Community feeling. Doing really good work across departments.

    Cons

No opportunity for growth and big separation between leadership and junior staff. Needs new leadership in general

    Advice to Management

Should take better care of strategy in the long term and care about the staff that helped to grow the organization to what it is today.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society full-time

    Pros

The organization has an extremely long history of genuinely helping refugees in the US and abroad. Many of the field staff are smart, capable, and committed. There is a strong level of technical expertise throughout the organization on the legal side (i.e. the organization is practically run by lawyers at the top).

    Cons

There are a shocking lack of basic elements necessary for any professional NGO, for example, as of 2018, the organization did not have a history of conducting performance reviews. There is a mix of really wonderful people along with a toxic batch of extremely unprofessional people who because of who they are in the organization are allowed to behave in ways that would not be tolerated at a more professional NGO. Bullying...

    Advice to Management

Resign, resign, resign. And just move to the private sector where you belong. For the good of all.
