I worked at Heidrick & Struggles full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Worked with intelligent and ambitious colleagues in an environment that fosters growth and development. Was fortunate to work with Partners and Practice Leaders who possessed exceptional management skills.

    Cons

It's a very hierarchical environment and careers are either made or broken by Partners.

    Advice to Management

The very leaders who are rewarded well for advising their clients on matters of hiring and leadership might brush up their skills for managing their own people.

I worked at Heidrick & Struggles full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Best in the business! Great place to be mentored. Very collegial environment and team-centric. Would definitley recommend.

    Cons

Every office is different and H&S is a very partner-driven organization. Very dependent upon the partner you are aligned to, but excellent place in general to learn the ropes of the business.

    Advice to Management

Think about aligning bonuses to capacity and % of each search completed. The bonus system today is a black box and each year it is at the digression of 1 person leading the industry sector to make the decision.

    Pros

Great access to the worlds business leaders. Partners here are world class. The worlds best companies will contact you and try to recruit you. Great possibilities to grow into a consultant and become promoted.

    Cons

Long hours, usually 8.30 to 7.30 in the office and then work from home. High intensity.

    Advice to Management

Take more time to develop your Associates. Take them to pitches and bring them into your offices.

I worked at Heidrick & Struggles full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked for Heidrick & Struggles 2 different times and both were highly enjoyable!! The people are great, the work hours are flexible, Heidrick & Struggles is a great place to learn the Executive Recruiting business or expand your skill set.

    Cons

If you are hired on as an Associate it is tough to advance to the role of Consultant; This is primarily due to the nature of the roles; Consultants are rainmakers and need to be very skilled at business development; Associates are candidate developers and as such may not have the business development/sales mindset

    Advice to Management

Make it easier for Associates to advance at least to a mid level role between Associate & Consultant; from what I hear they have already done this and that is great!!
