    Pros

The people are fantastic. The culture is truly the best part.

    Cons

Turnover is very high because they don't value associates and engagement managers and it is very difficult to make it to the Principal or Partner level. They don't pay very well until you get to those levels.

I have been working at Heidrick & Struggles full-time

    Pros

Great employee development program, and a model to promote from within to help entry level associates work their way to a consultant level. Work is very challenging, but is also very engaging and interesting. Quality colleagues and a great work/life balance.

    Cons

Can feel a bit political at times. Heavy focus on results and metrics. Hard to get to know other employees being so spread over the country/world.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the development of the entry level employees. These are going to be the companies biggest asset because the company values this promotion from within model. The better Heidrick can retain employees, the better business model they will have.

I worked at Heidrick & Struggles full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

During my time with Heidrick & Struggles I worked with excellent clients and colleagues on interesting work. The firm encouraged creativity, excellent client service, and teamwork. The firm had beautiful offices and talented staff across the board.

    Cons

While the work is very interesting, it was also filled with pressure. To some degree this is the nature of executive search. A high level of workload and intensity in each project can be difficult to sustain. The database was not good, and we were not allowed high level of electronic resources (example: Linkedin Recruiter accounts).

    Advice to Management

Know the people in the offices, continue morale building events to offset client and workload pressure, recognize and systematize excellent recruitment techniques developed by the teams.

    Pros

    High profile searches
    Really experienced consultants
Excellent brand in the marketplace; people call you back.

    Cons

Somewhat political, especially as you move up.
Workload can be back-breaking; don't work in search if you want weekends or holidays to yourself.
Technology hasn't kept up, too much manual work, lots & lots of paper.

"Great collogues but not so great management"

    I worked at Heidrick & Struggles full-time

    Pros

Team camaraderie is excellent. Most people work well together, step up and help each other to keep things moving in the right direction. Good benefits & beautiful office space.

    Cons

Upper management seems to have no direction. Constant changing of priorities and tasks. Management focus is on irrelevant processes rather than the work needed. Poor decision making skills. Poor leadership skills - afraid to say no to clients, so promises are always made at the top that technically are not ideal or cannot be done easily. Management also struggles with making decisions and when they do - they do not stand by it and often change their minds thus causing major confusion for downstream team members.

    Advice to Management

Seek leaders who understand not only the business but the technical implications of the business. Seek leaders that can relate to the details that are needed to get the job done. Seek leaders who are not afraid to push back on business requests that are just not feasible!
