I worked at Heinens part-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Positive experience overall. Great teamwork atmosphere. Management and owners are very encouraging & approachable. Comfortable & good looking uniform including fleeces since grocery stores are always cold. Nice customers with lots of loyal regulars. Easy employee parking and a clean, bright, spacious break room.

    Cons

In my dept (deli) the schedule wasn't finalized until Friday for the following week. That's ridiculous. Very cold store. Occasional rich, snobby customers. Some lazy employees that didn't carry their weight.

    Advice to Management

Heinens does a good job taking care of their employees, but please consider implement a scheduling system that is more realistic because people have lives (families, school, church, other jobs, plans, etc) outside of Heinens.

      Pros

      Easy to get hired.

      Cons

Too many managers. No room for growth. Treat entry-level employees very poor. Managers talk bad about employees behind their backs. Stressful environment. Super long hours for young age

      I worked at Heinens part-time

      Pros

The one decent thing was flexible scheduling

      Cons

Managers bully the hard workers and praise the lazy ones. Have mouse traps all over the store. Didn't give many hours to part timers.

      Advice to Management

Watch the employees to see who actually works and who doesn't.

I have been working at Heinens full-time for more than 20 years

      Pros

Heinen's offers great support of local companies and the community. Heinen's has great meat and seafood procurement programs which enable quality products for sale.

      Cons

The employees' work schedule always changes from one week to the next, and from day to day. There is a lack of consistency across all stores.

I worked at Heinens part-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

Heinen's is a great company for work for. The workers are great, but the many of the customers are overly demanding.. and downright rude. I worked in the bakery and it's really hard, physical labor. You know you've earned your pay by the end of your shift.

      Cons

Customers are rude and demanding to employees.

      Advice to Management

      I worked at Heinens

      Pros

they offer time off for holidays. Union labor, friendly staff, Opportunities exist for advancement through the corporate structure.Purchasing discounts

      Cons

A disjointed junior management structure. Staff discount is a long time coming. Difficult to find a way to articulate grievances .

      Advice to Management

On arrival there was no direction offered for matters relating to health and safety. No indication of action to be taken in the event of eg a fire .No fire training ,no assembly points. This was completely alien to my European ideas and experience.Odd.
