    Advice to Management

You guys have a pretty strong company. Keep it up.

    Pros

Great Company, but not for everyone!

    Cons

None that I can think of; just was not good fit for me. I am very dynamic and need to be involved as a team member.

    Pros

Great Benefits, good downtown location, great work life balance. Also, compensation is on a higher end.

    Cons

I would like to see mgmt share more information about company, maybe quarterly updates about where company is as far as NI, AUM, etc.

I have been working at Heitman full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    1. Great experience with lots of deal flow on several property types
    2. Good benefits: healthcare, free snacks, bonus holidays & holiday parties
    3. Working alongside relatively intelligent professionals

    Cons

    1. Compensation is a joke: if you are an entry level employee, you'll get paid the same across departments, whether you work an intense 80-hour week, or a 9-to-5. Management feels little, if any, responsibility or pressure to compete in the marketplace or recognize employees' performance. Incentive compensation, raises, and promotions are of little concern.

    2. Forget about having much of a life if you work in an intensive department. Late nights and weekends may be a regular occurrence.

    3. No training whatsoever. You show up and begin working. Great for making mistakes and learning from them, but how do you anticipate the things you don't know that are unique to the company's processes?

    Advice to Management

    Align incentives.

    I worked at Heitman full-time

    Pros

Learn finance aspects of real estate...not sure how you can be an Accountant w/o an Accounting degree...but here you can.

    Cons

Funny Story...My manager denied by bonus after declaring it would be paid to me. Hope it doesn’t happen to you.

She did that out of retaliation b/c I left the firm several weeks after bonuses were declared…well…guess what…it’s a free country and I was the only CPA at the staff level, paid a staff salary—despite peers with less experience who were promoted above me.

No…I was not “incompetent or lazy” – I actually had a good review. This, despite a hostile Senior Accountant who created a adverse work environment and accused me of "not knowing how to put in Journal Entries."

You might be thinking I’m some “crazy person ranting,” but this is the first review I’ve ever written for anything. I probably should have gone to an attorney but I could care less, since I make over 50% more after switching jobs…yeah…newsflash…paying market rate is a fair reason to switch firms. Anyways, there are good people there, you can learn a lot about Real Estate Investments—but I think you should take a public firm environment over this if you have the chance.

I have been working at Heitman full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Excellent company culture -- smart, committed, friendly co-workers -- excellent perks like free snacks, wellness program with team challenges, bonus days off around holidays -- lots of parties and celebrations -- good work life balance -- this company appreciates and cares about its employees and shows it in the little things they do

    Cons

It's hard to think of any major cons -- maybe they could communicate more about how the company is doing throughout the year -- also, it is a flat organization so it can be a little hard to figure out how to advance your career

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing -- there is a reason people stay at this company -- it is a great place to work!

    Pros

You work with a lot of great people, benefits are great, bonuses are awesome and great exposure to the real estate industry.

    Cons

There are cliques, there is no formal training and your bonuses and goals are very clear.

    Advice to Management

    Improve communications

I have been working at Heitman full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You can learn a lot from the many intelligent professionals that work at Heitman. The culture is fairly laid back, work/life balance is valued as well as working hard and producing great results.

    Cons

Your work load is completely up to luck-of-the-draw based on what fund you are placed on (Investor Accounting), however compensation is the same across the board.

    Advice to Management

    Compensation should reflect work-loads.
