I worked at Hella full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Room for growth, good people, team oriented work, more than enough work to keep you busy, and most managers will work with family schedules.

    Cons

Building/labs in need of upgrade. Resources for the labs is at snail pace while jobs have been rapidly ramping up.

    Advice to Management

Put money into your R&D labs. They are struggling to keep up with demands due to lack of resources.

I worked at Hella full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good place twenty years ago. This place will suck the life out of you.

    Cons

Temp service people outnumber the "permanent". They arrange their equipment as often as your mother in law rearranges her living room. Seniority means nothing. Wages are claimed "competitive for the area". Too much technology and not enough brains. Not enough spent on training. Horribly short notices for overtime work. Zero family values.

    Advice to Management

Too many people have been given advances with no experiences other than being good little toadies.

I worked at Hella full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pockets of very talented individuals. Things may improve given the recent change in leadership.

    Cons

Significanly more focus on internal reporting and reporting to Germany than on the customers and the customer deliverables.
The processes are constantly changing. Difficult for the teams to know the proper one.
Too many old software tools, old tools that don't work well with each other.
Upper management indecisiveness regarding what business to pursue, overall direction. Company is constantly changing direction and strategy.
Nearly every project is escalated to VP or President level.
They change their 401k provider every few years.
Too many open positions, HR is incapable of finding and recruiting good people.
Poor building maintenance - atrium area is a complete disaster. Very embarrassing to bring customers into the area.

    Advice to Management

None - you are in too deep of a hole now.

    Pros

Good pay and a lot of time off ,because it's meaningless, fake,b.s

    Cons

No body wants to improve anything but there pay and job title. Very poor quality management.outdated practices and equipment

    Advice to Management

Restructure, and replace all management, stop using old school German thinking, before you don't have a business, very foolish in Plymouth Michigan

I have been working at Hella full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Most employees at Hella are very quick and good at doing their jobs. The engineering department has years of valuable experience built up and most people are happy to share their knowledge.

    Cons

The process comes from multiple groups at the German headquarters. New processes (updates or sometimes completely new forms) are rolled out about every two years and the US office doesn't always catch up to the process before it has changed again.

Old software tools are used that often make it difficult to get anything done.

    Advice to Management

Stabilize the development process, upgrade your software tools, and be more decisive with new product line directions. Drop the bland boiler-plate vision statements and set more concrete goals.
