I worked at Helzberg Diamonds full-time

    Pros

There is effort made to incentivize employees in a fun way. The pay is fair - $15 per hour. Great teamwork environment and there is opportunity to advance.

    Cons

Very stressful work environment and can be negative at times. There were not enough employees for the work load and individuals were expected to meet unrealistic goals.

I worked at Helzberg Diamonds full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly staff always willing to lend a hand. A great family atmosphere.

    Cons

Work/Life Balance, Compensation and Benefits, Senior Mgt

    Advice to Management

Your culture and values are great, but a major failure to stay competitive in a very competitive market.

I worked at Helzberg Diamonds full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Stress free job, great training. Really layer back environment aside from my manager hovering around looking over my shoulder all the time.

    Cons

Pathetic commission rate and hourly pay. Monthly commission targets changed so you couldn't gauge how much you'd actually make ahead of time. Commission starts at 0.5% and even in a slow month you have to sell $15k just to hit 1%. I worked st the outlet store and never saw more than 1% commission even in December and January with over $35k in sales both months. For a Fortune 500 company, they sure are cheap.
Unless you plan on working part time, or sticking with the company for 15+ years and moving to a regular store, don't waste your time working here. Full time employees get screwed cuz they have higher sales goals without a higher commission rate.

    Advice to Management

Increase the commission rate for lower volume stores.

    Pros

Other sales people help with sales so that sales can be made. The hours are the same as the mall so I know what to expect

    Cons

Management lacks experience in training and development of salesperson. Single sales people are left making sales or management takes over instead of teaching

    Advice to Management

More time knowing what the salesperson needs and communications

    Pros

Flexible work environment. Opportunity to get involved multiple charity events per year.

    Cons

Lack of room for growth and creativity in the role. This is a common challenge for designers working for a company with set brand standards.

I worked at Helzberg Diamonds full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Product is interesting and it is owned by Berkshire Hathaway.

    Cons

The corporate building is almost entirely windowless and the finance and operations seemed antiquated. The worst part was the lack of work/life balance and some staff in key positions would have been lucky to have graduated from high school who'd make embarrassing errors on both internal and external communications and operations.

    Advice to Management

Encourage more team functions outside of the building.

I have been working at Helzberg Diamonds full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Owned by Warren Buffet, so the company is solid. Health insurance, paid holidays, 401 k are all offered after 3 months. Nice co-workers.

    Cons

The company sends out so many free coupons to their customers, that we spend so much time helping people select their free gifts, so we don't always get around to the potential paying customers! Every customer must be offered credit, before they have even found something they want to buy. Every customer must be turned over to another associate, if they are not exhibiting buying signals. How do you build rapport when you have to turn all of your customers over to someone else,

    Advice to Management

It is great to send out coupons for free stuff, but why not make the coupons say"$100. off of a purchase of at least $150.Most people would still use the coupon, but at least we could still make a buck or two for our trouble.
