I have been working at Henkel full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

New manager last year listens and tries to take action. Plant atmosphere much less toxic than before. Plant is growing, higher production, new folks coming in. Feels like a good team, focus is more on safety. Ideas I have get acted on.

    Cons

Always told will get the money next year, next budget to fix things. Pay raises said to be market competitive. Work is hard at times, long shifts.

    Advice to Management

Keep listening to the folks with the ideas. Find money to fix the issues and invest in the plant.

I have been working at Henkel full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good brand name. Product sells itself. Distribution helps sell the product. Quality along with high price put these products at the top of a commodity line.

    Cons

Lots of ex-employees working for competition and copy the secret sauce. Tough to sell price increases when the competition is pricing at such a low level.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. Especially like the communication and web development. The web site is the best within the commercial adhesive business.

I worked at Henkel full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

High paying base salary, opportunity to travel.

    Cons

VERY HIGH TURN OVER RATE FOR NEW EMPLOYEES. Training program is an absolute disaster, management is extremely disconnected with their employees, the amount of disorganization within this company is ridiculous seeing as though they are a national worldwide billion dollar business. The company culture is completely nonexistent and almost a third of employees have been there 20+ years making the work environment dull and very unexciting.

    Advice to Management

FOCUS ON YOUR EMPLOYEES MORE THAN JUST SAVING MONEY FOR EACH DIVISION OF YOUR COMPANY!!!

I have been working at Henkel full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Average pay, and the people you work with are very nice people. Good 401K options with 8% matching, potential for good end of year bonuses, and stock sharing options. Can have some flexible working hours. A good amount of career growth potential, and they are accepting of you trying different business segments (i.e. sales, manufacturing, supply chain, etc.).

Henkel is very good at hitting it's targets for share holders, so the stock option you can buy into will really make you some money.

    Cons

Henkel is a company who is very tight on money, and is very political from the top down. This turns into major lack of resoucing (people) and puts too much work on everybody's plate. This burns people out, and can create an environment where nothing actually gets done.

Too many generals (managers) and not enough soldiers (independent contributors).
Way too many procedures and red tape to go through to actually do something. Germany has to approve much of what happens, which makes everything a slow process.

Low raises and overworked leads to high turnover.

    Advice to Management

Let the regional leaders make the decisions for that region, that's what you hired them to do. Germany does not need to fully control every decision. You do well promoting career growth, but consider better raises for top performers. Higher raises for top performers drastically improves your chances of talent retention. The few thousand $$$ that you save by skimping on raises will easily be <5% of what it costs to hire a new person, train them, and get them to the level of a top performer.

Also, the manufacturing well is running very dry. If you want to continue to cut costs in order to drive profit, consider looking at business dinners.

I worked at Henkel full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Salary good for the Phoenix area
    - Learn skills that are valuable in the marketing place
    - Company with well-known brands
    - Financially stable company

    Cons

    - They hire a lot of managers that are toxic and complete bullies. HR will do nothing to help you.
    - Not diverse, I was told I needed to work harder than everyone else because of my race
    - Long hours, because their HQ is in Germany, you won't have a typical workday
    - People get promoted based on who they know, not performance

    Advice to Management

    - Take cultural sensitivity classes
    - Let people have work-life balance, they will actually produce more
    - Make sure managers aren't funneling all their work to their employees while they do nothing

    Pros

The people, annual bonus, training opportunities, career growth options, job stability, support from management, you can wear jeans to work at this site.

    Cons

Long hours and low salary. Tight budgets. Generally a lack of resources (headcount), leading to the jobs being more stressful than they need to be. Production environment can be uncomfortable (hour in summer, cold in winter).

    Advice to Management

None. It's a big company and they do a good job trying to take care of their people.

    Pros

High expectations coming to Henkel given the diverse products array. Family Company atmosphere would be great if they followed those principles.

    Cons

Extreme organization to the detriment of the business. Management suffocates the employee. Very rigid and inflexible structure. No regard for the team or contributions of non management.

    Advice to Management

    Trust your employees

    Pros

Huge company with a large and growing footprint in adhesive technologies and consumer goods. Lots of opportunities to rotate job functions.

    Cons

"Henkel" brand name not well known in the U.S. which limits our ability to attract top talent.

    Advice to Management

Implement a better strategy to promote the "Henkel" name, not just our brands so we can attract, hire, and retain top talent.
