    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Hennepin County, Minnesota full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very Family Friendly, Great work environment, very flexible, Lots of discounts on parking/cell/legal aid etc. Many continuing education opportunities, and lots of benefits. Health insurance is great. Also stipends for public transit. Also a fairly decent pension.

    Cons

Parking downtown/traffic. But it's unlikely that's going to change. If you don't like traffic/parking, and don't want to take mass transit, maybe working downtown isn't for you

    Advice to Management

Would like to see some additional retirement options (401k/403b). But all in all doing a very good job.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Hennepin County, Minnesota full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of caring and bright minded people working to upgrade old ways of thinking and delivering services.

    Cons

Slow and short-sighted change analysis. Lots of money and time spent on building massive, unifying solutions rife with pitfalls and bugs.

    Dead end advancement opportunity.

    Advice to Management

Allow employees to perform their jobs with simple and cheaper department level tools, and let people be the interface and their collaboration of expertise and caring produce the valuable solutions to the County's transitions...not paying for cumbersome and buggy network solutions which create more work to debug and cost more time through less efficient processes to perform the same required services.

Understand the actual processes, requirements and work performed by people to deliver current services before taking a working system apart and trying to improve it, without a sense of how it functioned in the first place.

I worked at Hennepin County, Minnesota full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

At this company employees have the opportunity to provide direct support to individuals in serious need of help. The majority of the team is hard-working and committed to client success.

    Cons

Senior management fosters a work culture that is both sloppy and fear-based. Nepotism and negligence are real issues that cannot be addressed because top management indulges in them. Serious issues are swept under the rug and employees are penalized for voicing concerns.

Very rarely is there a day on which management will spend the day in the offices. Most often, management shows up for a few hours to fault employees for tasks that were never assigned or dropped balls on management's part. The abilities to admit fault or offer positive feedback are not present in this company's leadership.

To be fair, company leadership does appear to have a big heart for the clients. Unfortunately, leadership's incompetence and flat-out vindictiveness stand squarely in the way of employee (and therefore client) success.

    Advice to Management

Clean up your act and treat your employees better. Until then, I encourage anyone with career aspirations and/or self-respect to seek greener pastures.

I have been working at Hennepin County, Minnesota full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good money and benefits

    Cons

Too much nepotism, you can onlyrics get so far and advancement stagnates!

    Advice to Management

Do your job! Get more training! Lead with your people, not at them! Do what's right and not because you were told to do it!
