I have been working at Henrico County, VA full-time

    Pros

Highest paying county in the area, good people within the organization

    Cons

Very high caseloads, always short-staffed as high salary attracts workers from other localities and they can't keep up with the workload-end up resigning, when you take off your work piles up until you return

    Advice to Management

Higher more people, reward those who stay, be proactive instead of reactive

I worked at Henrico County, VA (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Small staff, nice office space

    Cons

No training for positions provided, policies and procedures were constantly changed, often times with no notification to staff, to accommodate whatever situation arose at the time, staff not provided with resources to properly assist clients due to budget

    Advice to Management

provide staff with proper training, care about providing a service to really assist your clients instead of looking good in reports/on paper, there are too many boards/committees giving input into everything to get anything done

    Pros

Nice and helpful employees; Cafeteria on site; Valuable insight into the profession

    Cons

It kind of turned me off of working for local government -- however, I assume it would be different in a more progressive area

    Advice to Management

Nothing -- it seems like management was hard working. Their hands seem to be tied due to those sitting on boards
