I have been working at Henry M. Jackson Foundation (More than a year)

    Pros

The company provides a decent amount of time off between sick day, vacation days, and federal holidays, expect about a month + in total time off per year. Not too shabby.

    Cons

If you're working in Silver Spring at WRAIR/NMRC, be prepared for a lot of regulatory hoops to jump through to get just about anything accomplished, especially between labs.

    Pros

Benefits are awesome. Pay is decent. Government Holiday schedule. Long term training reimbursement. Great research going on. Opportunity to learn a lot of different research skills and techniques

    Cons

Structured promotion levels don't allow promotions earlier than every 2 years. HR and Ordering departments can be a hassle. Work on military base has certain hurdles

I have been working at Henry M. Jackson Foundation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and positive work environment, good colleagues and supportive and autonomous atmosphere. The mission and the work done here is exciting and makes a difference.

    Cons

Low pay and sometimes frustrating organizational structure. But there really aren't a lot of cons of the company; they are cobs of the onsite management and work environment.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Henry M. Jackson Foundation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people at HJF headquarters are wonderful: very helpful. The benefits are impressive as well.

    Cons

HJF as a contracting company is very good, but your worksite mileage may vary. If you are placed in a hostile situation, there's not much that HJF seems to be able to do for you.

    Advice to Management

HJF needs to have more "teeth" when dealing with military/government workers who are not treating their employees with respect.

I have been working at Henry M. Jackson Foundation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits, separate training. Contracted to great companies/federal work/research with great opportunities. Pretty good pay especially as a recent grad. Lots of experience to build up a resume.

I work at the Naval Medical Research Center in Silver Spring, MD so the culture comes from them.

Everyone is friendly, great team atmosphere. Great emphasis on keeping a healthy work/life balance.

    Cons

HR is often unresponsive or slow when I need clarifications.

    Advice to Management

Get back ups for HR if correspondants are away. Mine seemed on vacation or away when I tried to contact her.
