I have been working at Henry Schein full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great Benefits, Well Maintained Buildings, Buildings seem secure and safe

    Cons

No professional development, HR department seems to lack knowledge of policies, No room for advancement or growth, upper management tends to promote themselves while forgetting the little guys, very hard to move to another department

    Advice to Management

Do not forget the youthful employees are the future of the company, need to develop more ways to grow within the company, don't forget the smaller positions that help run departments. I have seen plenty of young people come and leave within less than a year.

I have been working at Henry Schein as an intern (More than 10 years)

    Pros

People at their desks are great!

    Decent medical benefits

    401k match

    Global company

I still have a job but can't say how long

    You will get severance packages

    Cons

IT is a toxic environment where fear and intimidation are common.

The top leadership has little or no experience in IT and it shows by the way they talk to the team about priorities. The answer is everything is a priority.

No longer a nice place to work.

People afraid to speak up so everyone is ruled by fear. No sense going to your manager or Human Resources because they are powerless or will run back to your manager so whats the point.

    Advice to Management

Stop firing the people who do the work and protect the people with connections and zero experience.

Send your top leadership for leadership classes. Actually save your money it's to late.

No one wants to work in a office where they are afraid to tell the truth about a project. We have projects with unrealistic deadlines and our managers know it but tell us to just do the best you can because they will get in trouble if they speak up.

Why were there firings in IT? We don't have a big team and we are not the reason the stock went down but because no one protects us we get fired.

The top leadership will read this and spend their time running around like fools to figure out who said it instead of finding out why it was said.

    Pros

Not much good to say about the company. Look at other companies and do yourself a favor. Good luck !

    Cons

Extremely underpaid and under appreciated. Go to another company where you'll make more money. Advancement opportunities? Haha. All they care about are stockholders, cheap to their employees.

    Advice to Management

Know how to manage your staff and lead.

I have been working at Henry Schein full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Henry Schein is the largest company on Long Island that offers a reasonable work-life balance. Your job is pretty secure unless you get on the bad side of an executive.

    Cons

There are very limited advancement opportunities with only a handful of "chosen ones" that get promoted. The leaders of the organization have a tendency to maintain status quo when there are issues by telling you what you want to hear, and then taking no action. No matter how stellar your annual review is, you will most likely receive a 2.5% raise. If you are a motivated, intelligent and hard working individual who wants a defined career path, HS is not the company for you. But if you want to do the same thing every day, do not want to be challenged, and become a "lifer," you should apply.

    Advice to Management

Start recognizing and appreciating employees that have consistently added value and proven themselves by giving them above the average 2.5% raise and developing a career path. Get rid of employees that are under-performers and stop feeling bad about it. The organization would operate more efficiently because the high performers would feel appreciated and would add even more value. The way the company is managed now supports and breeds mediocrity.

I have been working at Henry Schein full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The Company is very involved in community activities and helping to provide health screenings to adults and children in under-served areas.

    Cons

The level of professional respect in the corporate finance area continues to decline steadily. More and more decisions being made by finance management do not take into account the success of current processes. Changes being implemented in a dictatorship manner with no regard for the significant experience that finance staff brings each day. Turnover has continued to increase.

    Advice to Management

Be mindful of the risk being taken as finance processes are being changed with little understanding of the impact that these changes will have.

    Pros

Challenging work,I learn something new every day- co-workers are nice, hard working, dedicated people. Lots of charity and volunteer opportunities.

    Cons

Managers and supervisors are not properly trained to manage and supervise. Most are micro-managers who behave like tyrants and bullies rather than do what is best for the team and the customers. I have seen favoritism and bullying on a daily basis.

    Advice to Management

Get better training in getting the most out of your team without demeaning them

    Pros

    Free sample products from suppliers

    Cons

Everything! You are micromanaged with people looking over your shoulder and listening to your calls all day long. Commission structure is set up in a pool which changes every month, and you get a small percentage of that pool. It won't matter if you are a top seller or a bottom seller.
Horrible life work balance. If you need time for you family or kids...too bad, you have to really fight for time off.

    Advice to Management

You will get better results by letting your sales people do what they do best...sell, without your interference. Actually reward your sales people by giving them commission on what they sell.

Management famous for telling you what you want to hear and doing nothing .Over promise and under produce .Don't care about low level employees , only worried about rich getting richer.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring Temps with no work ethic.Raise pay rate . This is supposed to be a Fortune 500 Co than stop paying people at warehouse level of the Co ,poverty level money.
