I have been working at Henry Schein full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You will not get laid off
Very appreciative customers. Seriously the best customers I have ever supported.
The vast majority of your co-workers are great folks who have each others backs.

    Cons

There will be a lot of days you wish you would be laid off.
Compensation and Advancement opportunities are abysmal if you have a degree or if you already have experience.
Company espouses great values, but management does not exemplify them.

    Advice to Management

Support should not be the ugly step child of your organization, especially professionals with great tech and soft skills. Also, give your company values more than lip service.

    Pros

The pay and benefits were good. Opportunity to network with other companies and grow relationships. Traveling got to see a lot of places.

    Cons

You are treated like a number no matter how hard you work unless you are accepted into their inner circle. Expectations are somewhat unreasonable expecially when management doesn't provide direction.

    Pros

Very flexible schedule as long as you are hitting your numbers. Opportunity to sell almost anything in the dental field. Can be lucrative if located in the right market.

    Cons

Increased competition with smaller margins on every item you sell. Lack of opportunities for promotion or growth. Success depends on your territory. No car, no gas allowance, all expenses come out of your pocket.

    Advice to Management

Understand that not every territory is the same and certain areas of the country are going to struggle.

    Pros

Schein has good benefits, which is one reason people like to work there. They also have the new building, which is a draw. And they have good work parties.

    Cons

Management ABSOLUTELY kills this place, and it starts at the top (locally) and works its way down. The shenanigans they allow to happen and/or overlook make this place miserable to work at.

    Advice to Management

There's nothing to be said, it will be discounted and belittled. They have that awesome ability to smile at you and stab you in the back simultaneously. Be honest with yourselves.

I have been working at Henry Schein (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fortune 500 company but feels like a small organization.

    Cons

Leadership is very, very detached from reality and the rest of the Team Schein family. We understand that the top concern is always the bottom line, but there is an immeasurable amount of issues that need to be addressed, especially in our working infrastructure. There is no emphasis on catching up with the digital age. If you need an example, just take a look at our website. Hilariously, leadership poses the company as a technology company. Technology companies do not make you clock-in and out of work and use a fax machine on a daily basis.

Very evident that there is no succession planning for our top leaders. If you pay attention, you can see that the company has a very hard time retaining young talent, which makes sense because nothing we do appeals to a digital generation. Generation X and Y leave in droves while people who have been with the company for decades coast because people are valued and rewarded for tenure over what they actually bring to the table. It's discouraging to see this. My advice to those looking to build a career, not just find a job, is to let Henry Schein evolve a little bit more before working here. At this rate, when leadership retires, the company will simply not exist anymore.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach. The concerns of the newer Team Schein Members are valid.
