A company that cares. Steady growth. Stable market. If you work hard you will be rewarded. Management's vision is unmatched.

    Cons

Could be more current/progressive but that will come with time. Hard to fix things that aren't broken. Keep up the good work and keep moving forward.

I have been working at Henry Schein (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fortune 500 company but feels like a small organization.

    Cons

Leadership is very, very detached from reality and the rest of the Team Schein family. We understand that the top concern is always the bottom line, but there is an immeasurable amount of issues that need to be addressed, especially in our working infrastructure. There is no emphasis on catching up with the digital age. If you need an example, just take a look at our website. Hilariously, leadership poses the company as a technology company. Technology companies do not make you clock-in and out of work and use a fax machine on a daily basis.

Very evident that there is no succession planning for our top leaders. If you pay attention, you can see that the company has a very hard time retaining young talent, which makes sense because nothing we do appeals to a digital generation. Generation X and Y leave in droves while people who have been with the company for decades coast because people are valued and rewarded for tenure over what they actually bring to the table. It's discouraging to see this. My advice to those looking to build a career, not just find a job, is to let Henry Schein evolve a little bit more before working here. At this rate, when leadership retires, the company will simply not exist anymore.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach. The concerns of the newer Team Schein Members are valid.

    Pros

The Team mentality for Henry Schein is very important. I always feel comfortable working with the Team whenever I have a question. I have learned a lot in the time I have been with Schein. I could have not found a better place of co-workers to work with.

    Cons

They do not always have room for growth or retain very good talent. If a person gets another offer they rarely will come close to matching that salary. Can be hard to move up within the company.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Medical software is fun and exciting. Due to government requirements and certifications there are a lot of fun and exciting changes floating in. Fast pace.

    Cons

Low pay, low moral, everyone always seems unhappy, people don't work together or share knowledge. Some have been with the company for years, it's stable and its great for collecting a paycheck however it is not a great place to grow in your role. People take job security very seriously. I still run into people out and about that work there and the response is always negative as to how things are doing. No one ever seems happy.

    Advice to Management

Hire more experience people, pay better, look for ways to brighten the internal moral.

I worked at Henry Schein (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Clean safe work environment, and nice people to work with.

    Cons

Top heavy management in regards to hierarchy. Need to employ more low to mid level employees.

    Advice to Management

Interview your Directors and Managers genuinely on why they have so much turn over, inadequate head count, and difficulty to promote employees from within. Management is overstating the "morale" of the company.

I have been working at Henry Schein full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Hours are solid and depending on department there are some really good people to work with. Pay is pretty good compared to other LI companies. 401K is a good deal (100% to 7%). Vacation time is good as well and not very difficult to take your earned time.

    Cons

Health insurance has been deteriorating, though it's still decent. Many promotions happen for people based on length of service or other factors not related to performance and knowledge. Annual merits have been weak for many years despite company growth. No stock options until you reach Director level. Executive compensation grows 20% a year while employees grow at <3%.

    Advice to Management

Stop telling employees that the company has experienced record growth, then give tiny (<3%) merit increases. Offer managers and even professional employees some type of stock options.
