I have been working at Hensel Phelps full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Hensel Phelps provides a great work environment for the employees that makes going to work enjoyable. Your team member feel more like family. HP also provide great benefits that are far and beyond.

    Cons

As the great saying is told, "Where much is given, much is required". The construction industry itself is demanding and can occupy a great amount of your time. Can be a conflict with your quality of life if you don't find the balance.

    Advice to Management

Just because you may have suffered or went through difficulties as a young employee doesn't mean someone below you that is working to get where you are has to go through the same struggles. It is not always beneficial to throw someone, but rather to allow them to understand their role and then add more responsibility.

I have been working at Hensel Phelps full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    1) Family like atmosphere.
    2) Good benefits
    3) Good pay
    4) Lots of training for your position

    Cons

    1) Difficult to have a work life balance
    2) Changing jobs and still having to work 2 jobs

    Advice to Management

When someone is transitioned to another job, there needs to be a better way to do so. Employees shouldn't be working on 2 different jobs at once. Expectation of employee should be lined out better when they are transitioned.

    Pros

Great people, great hands on experience, and ample space to learn and grow as a professional. Receptive management and frequent training keeps work from feeling stagnant. Employee owned company allows for great pride to be taken in work and environment. Benefits grow with experience.

    Cons

Full work loads lead to long work hours needed to stay on top of operation, but management is typically receptive to giving days off or breaks between fast paced jobs.

I have been working at Hensel Phelps full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Hensel Phelps is a fantastic company to build a career with. The pay is very competitive, when you include the insurance, retirement, and profit sharing. HP is employee owned, which means you have a voice to help shape YOUR future along with YOUR company's, instead of spending 30 yrs. lining someone else's pockets.

    Cons

HP has many positive attributes, but these do come at a price. Expect to work hard, and work long hours. I typically work 60-70hrs per week, but I personally enjoy it, so that may not necessarily be a con...

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, and keep getting us good jobs.

I have been working at Hensel Phelps full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

We get to build amazing things that would make anyone proud to be a part of.
Working with a like-minded staff who are as committed as you are to a project is amazing.
The people and memories you make along the wary are priceless.

    Cons

In my experience staffing on all of my jobs hasn't been great. There has always been too much work and not enough people.
Work life balance in my opinion is sub par. Spending 12 or more hours at work for most of a project because there just isn't enough people to do everything that needs to happen is preposterous.

    Advice to Management

Hensel Phelps is known to take care of its people. In my opinion and experience I haven't seen it.
Staff our project accordingly all the way through from beginning to end.
We are people not pieces on a chess board.

I have been working at Hensel Phelps full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Hensel Phelps has been a great company to work with. The benefits Hensel Phelps provides to their employees are among the top ranking in my opinion, as well as the Insurance that is provided to each employee, which in turn, keeps our employees working with us long term. Providing a family atmosphere from job to job working with fellow employees from years prior.
There are numerous trainings Hensel Phelps provides to ensure the knowledge of our employees continue to expand. The work/life has continued to improve over the past few years, which dramatically helps with work atmospheres.

    Cons

Upper management and craft interaction, I would recommend more positive interaction with the craft. In sense, it provides an insight and understanding of the type of company the craft have dedicated their time and effort for. This also applies Vise Versa.

    Advice to Management

No advice to provide, I believe we all know what we need to do to make this company even better. Take action.

I have been working at Hensel Phelps full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Company is Employee Owned.
The company tries to recruit and retain top-notch employees!
Overall company benefits are extremely hard to beat!
Good, honest company that strives to work as a team with both Owners and Subcontractors.
They really listen to their employees and it shows through recent adjustments

    Cons

It takes about 5-8 years coming straight out of school before you really start to see some of the benefits that typically kick in earlier for other employee owned companies. (Ex. Bonuses & Stock Options)

    Advice to Management

Keep making the necessary adjustments to keep HP on the forefront of the industry, not only for what we do, but how we treat our people.
