    Pros

    - The people who work at Here Media are passionate about LGBT media and the brands.
    - There are many opportunities to learn and gain new skills.
    - The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed.
    - The benefits are competitive (healthcare, 401k, PTO, etc.)
    - The executives are easy to reach.
    - The company often promotes from within, so there are opportunities for growth.
    - Leadership often goes above and beyond to accommodate unexpected life events.

    Cons

    - It's a small company; things can change fast so you must be agile.
    - Occasionally, short-term gains eclipse long-term goals.

    Advice to Management

    - Focus on improving the company's culture.
    - Don't settle for mediocre employees; sometimes, good enough isn't good enough.

I worked at Here Media full-time

    Pros

-As the stewart of largest LGBT media properties, positions here offer access to and visibility within the LGBT market
    -Enduring, well known brands

    Cons

-Company is run by an shady egotistical CEO who sets the tone of the company by badmouthing employees behind their backs, all others do the same
-HR is a mouthpiece of the CEO and more concerned about fending off potential lawsuits (of which there are many) than helping employees
-No long term strategy or vision for the company, not staying current with the media landscape particularly digital

    Advice to Management

-Clean house, bring in consultant to give real, unbiased recommendations for this
    -Treat employees with more respect

    Pros

    - Smart people in the trenches trying to maintain the company's relevance.
    - Company has a rich history and instrumental in moving LGBT rights forward in the first decades on its existence.

    Cons

    - Poor stewardship of LGBT advocacy since ~2000.
    - Company driven by CEO's ego.
    - Senior management ill-equipped to lead.
    - No long-term strategy, reactive.
    - Questionable tactics to inflate advertising rates.

    Advice to Management

Develop a product-focussed strategy, not a marketing strategy. Lead, do not chase.

I worked at Here Media (Less than a year)

    Pros

The only positive about this company is the strong knowledge I developed of social media analytics and Google analytics.

    Cons

They are very disorganized. Very unprofessional (curse all the time in the workplace, innapropriate pictures in some of the offices). Everyone gossips about another person in the office after smiling in their face. The company has no set internal process so when getting trained everything is a shxt show. They expect you to complete personal tasks for people while completing the work you were hired for and do both at the same time. They could care less if they don't allow you to take a lunch break. If you ever give the impression that you know more than someone who is senior to you or if you are naturally more inquisitive you're getting fired on the spot because you pose as a threat.

    Advice to Management

Get organized. Develop and internal process. Choose candidates based on work experience not based on if they're best friends/lovers with someone in senior management.

    Pros

There are a few nice people here who know what they're doing and want to do good work that helps further LGBT equality.

    Cons

There are some of the most misguided, laziest, most-uneducated people imaginable who work there, many in supervisory positions. It's a joke. Everyone knows they're hopeless but they're related to the owners.

    Advice to Management

Sell the company and let someone deserving run it.

    Pros

Some great staff and hardworking people. Fun events. Learn how to do projects with no money. There is the opportunity to learn about digital because the organization is so far behind other media outlets, so you can get creative and work on some pretty cool projects.

    Cons

Little Pay. No Rewards. Dramatic sales people. Constant fire drills all the time like you took a career in surgery. Little work/life balance. Senior management is inappropriate and makes employees feel uncomfortable and HR does nothing.

    Advice to Management

Reward your employees. Start thinking of a future strategic vision. Stop hiring upper management that has no clue what they are doing and makes your employees feel like they are stupid.

    Pros

    Event invites and free drinks

    Cons

Unprofessional work environment, very shallow values and discussions, consistent sexual harassment, the pay, run by a conniving madman who cares more about his millions than furthering any LGBT causes.

    Advice to Management

Fire most of the guys in charge, hire a more diverse time. Hire a creative director with a sound plan and vision.

    Cons

-Salaries are poor and there is not any opportunity to move up
-Noticed a huge lack of direction, the company doesn't know what it wants to be
-Large decisions are made on products and brands with zero market research being done, it is wasteful of time and money in the end
